Brady High School announces August 24 and 25 registration for the new school year with seniors at 8 40 a m and juniors at 1 30 p m on Monday and sophomores at 8 30 a m and freshmen at 1 30 p m on Tuesday. New students should pre register at the school and bring a 1 25 library fee, optional 8 insurance, and 1 parking sticker fee.
Descendants of the late Mr and Mrs S A Ohthausen will hold their annual reunion at Richards Park on Sunday August 16 with inviting old friends to attend.
Brady's street study identifies Bridge Street as the main north south route and Commerce Street linking to the San Angelo highway. Eleventh and Seventeenth Streets serve rural and school access with wide rights of way reducing congestion around the courthouse square. Most streets are asphalt surfaced and overall traffic is not heavily congested.
City Council approves eight additional radio alarm units for volunteer firemen to fully equip the department. Units installed at volunteers homes stay silent until activated from the station, relaying location to guide responders. Old system required volunteers to travel to the station to learn the fire location.
A Brady couple enjoy a camping vacation described by Mrs Swede Johnson. They travel from Brady to Sonora for the caverns guided by a local youth, then to a mountain park between Ozona and Sheffield, sleep in a sleeper, and head to Van Horn and Fort Davis with mentions of deer and scenic country.
Simpson Lake members will meet Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the district courtroom of the Courthouse. Amendments to by laws will be proposed, lot restrictions will be filed, and drawing for lots will be held.
The McCulloch County Farm Bureau announces its annual Queen’s Contest for Tuesday August 18 at the South Ward auditorium. Mrs. Lindsey Passmore chairs the event. A junior future queen from ages 5 to 7 will also be named.
Charles Timms, 15, sustained a severe cut on his left arm after a late night auto crash on a country road eight miles southwest of Brady. He was treated at Brady Hospital. The 1958 Oldsmobile owned by Charles Kemmitz was driven by 21 year old Stantford Henson. neither man was injured. The car sustained heavy damage.
Concho County hosts a singing convention this Sunday at 2 p m at the Eden Methodist Church. Local residents are invited to attend and join in the program.
McCulloch County Farm Bureau directors will meet at 8 p.m. Saturday at the McCulloch Electric Co op building to discuss county agriculture and cooperative matters.
Voters approve 75 000 in bonds by 240 to 198 to fund a school expansion program. C B Oates wins low bid and begins site clearing, moving the old high school band hall, building new band facilities, home economics rooms, administration offices, a central cafeteria, and the Stanburn Addition elementary school.
The city reports low pressure from a troubled water well in Prady and tests on new mains. City Supt. James Feazelle says repairs should finish by week’s end, with rusted water possibly appearing for 7 to 10 days. New 12 and 10 inch lines are nearly complete. full pressure awaits the elevated tank due in December.
The annual McCulloch County 4-H Fun Night will be held at the Richards Park slab on Tuesday August 11 starting at 6 p.m. Officials invite youths from preschool to young adults and their parents and leaders for a evening of activities.
The annual City Golf Tournament is set for August 23 with qualifying scores and a $5 entry due by Sunday. Chairman Sam McCollum says prizes will go to flight winners and runners-up as well as consolation winners and runners-up. Qualifying scores and fees may be submitted to Travis Oldham at the golf course by Sunday, with match schedules announced early next week.
Mr and Mrs H L Lackey attended a Big Spring reception Sunday August 2 at the Big Spring Country Club honoring Mr and Mrs W F Taylor on their Golden Wedding anniversary. The event was hosted by the Taylors’ two daughters and two sons, longtime friends dating to 1911 12 at North Texas Normal College in Denton.
