Brady School Board Hires Two New Teachers

The Brady School Board hired two new teachers Monday night to complete the faculty for the local system. James Price will teach social studies in high school and is a Southwest Texas State College graduate with three years of experience from West Columbia. Wilburn Thompson will teach Distributive Education, with approval pending from the Texas Education Agency. he is a Doane College graduate with a BA and substantial business experience.

L. J. Armstrong a Brady Fire Department veteran was elected chief at a members meeting Tuesday night. He succeeds Joe McAnally who led the department for four years. Fem Bowlers Win First In Big Spring Meet

A Brady group of female bowlers won first place at the Big Spring Women's Invitational Classified Bowling Tournament. The team of Josephine Haynes June Lewallen Viola Gary Booger Scott and Margarite Lohn captured the first place trophy and 225 dollars. Mrs Scott and Mrs Faye Ivy finished second in doubles and won a trophy and cash. Mrs Scott also placed second in all events winning another trophy and prize.

Gospel Tabernacle VBS School Closes Friday Night

The Brady Gospel Tabernacle Vacation Bible School ends Friday at 7 30 p m with a graduating exercise. Refreshments follow as families tour exhibits and students receive diplomas. Rev Charles L Grimes notes strong attendance and high interest. Parents are invited to attend.

Pioneer Lays New Six Inch Gas Line on West 11th

Pioneer Natural Gas Co to replace a four inch line with 474 feet of six inch pipe on West Lith street Brady to improve service for the industrial area. City of Brady plans to seal coat West Lith from South Bridge to South Walnut while Pioneer lays the line to avoid later paving work. Local manager James Isbell notes the upgrade behind the curb portion of the street.

Brady school board hikes property valuation 10 percent

The Brady Independent School District voted to raise taxable property values by 10 percent to meet a 1965 66 budget increase of more than 42000. The budget totals 590 465 with state funds 571 481 and local funds 150 712. A public hearing is set for Aug 16 to explain the plan.

Rex Lewis 73 of 407 KE 10th died at home at 2:15 am Thursday after a long illness. A Brady resident 41 years he was a former game warden and night officer. Funeral Saturday 2 pm in Wilkerson Chapel with burial in Voca Cemetery. He born Feb 8 1892 in Blackwell married Feb 10 1911. Whirlwind Causes Injury At Pool

A Tuesday afternoon whirlwind at the municipal pool tossed a metal umbrella, ripped a table loose, and blew towels and toys onto the golf course. Mrs. Don Hudson was hospitalized with shock and broken ribs after being struck by debris. Other bystanders and children were affected by the gusts.

James Oliver Willoughby 80 died about 11 p m Thursday at St John’s Hospital San Angelo prayer services held at St Mary s Eldorado and funeral at St Paul s Brady burial in Brady Cemetery. He was a Schleicher County rancher born March 11 1885 and developed a major sheep ranch. He led a long career in ranching and civic affairs with surviving wife goddaughter sisters and a brother. He belonged to St John’s Sonora and the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association.
