County tax assessor Vernon Waddill Jr reports total vehicle registrations climbed in 1969 with 4765 total registrations up from 4334 in 1968. Passenger car registrations rose to 5225 in 1964 and 5109 in 1968 while farm plates declined to 611 from 670.
Scattered thundershowers moved through the Heart of Texas on Wednesday leaving moisture and small hail in various parts. Stacy near the Colorado River recorded 1.86 inches in 90 minutes, with minor hail harming only young gardens. Brady downtown saw 0.75 inch, southside about 0.20 inch. otherwise, no other reports.
Region 15 Education Center hosts a workshop for Brady area teachers and other staff at Brady High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Dallas psychologist Dr. Robert A W Smith will consult and discuss referring children for evaluation and reporting problems to parents. Ruth Levermann of Del Rio and Velma Martin of Brownwood assist with reading and language handicapped strategies.
Mrs. Irvin Marshall 75 of Brady died Tuesday evening in Brady Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held Thursday in Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Lamar Leifeste officiating. Burial followed at Rest Haven Cemetery. Born December 25 1895 in Poland she moved to McCulloch County in 1900 and taught in Rochelle High School before long service as Brady nursery superintendent. She was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She and Irvin Marshall married October 30 1921 in Brady. Survivors include her husband two sons Melvin Marshall of Garland and Bill Jack Marshall of La Paz Bolivia a daughter Mrs Dewey McCall of Dallas a sister Mrs Ben Lovelace of Brownwood six grandchildren and a great grandchild. Pallbearers were Dr Steve King R F Carmichael B C Broad L O Brown B D Gees lin and Frank Corder. Memorials may go to the church or favorite charities.
Rose Davidson Speer, newly chosen alternate Poet Laureate of Texas, recalls her first poem as amateurish and describes her long life in Brady. Born Lometa, she built a home with family antiques, published poetry in 1938 and 1950s volumes, and remains a witty, musically inclined writer with three children and a son who plans a book.
Brady High School hosts the district track meet at Bulldog Stadium with 22 Brady competitors aiming to extend their dominance. The Bulldogs seek a fourth win this season, facing strong field entries from San Saba Llano Marble Falls and Burnet with preliminaries at 2 pm and finals late.
William Cleveland McMillan 76 of Brady died 11 55 a m Tuesday in the Veterans Administration Hospital Temple after a long illness. Funeral at 2 p m Thursday Wilkerson Memorial Chapel Rev Ray Ash First Baptist Church. Rest Haven Cemetery burial. Born July 11 1892 in McLennan County lived Brady 15 years retired farmer veteran World War I. Survivors wife three daughters Mozelle Wilbanks Ballinger Florene Vickers San Angelo Margie Kilmer Placid a son Leroy McMillan San Angelo brother Charlie McMillan Coleman sister Mrs L C Brock Coleman 2 grandchildren four great grandchildren pallbearers Allen Wilbanks Grnder Hays Vance Palmer E J Brock Charlie McMillan Glenn Brock.
Newly elected alderman G. W. Ike Davenport and incumbents Ralph Micklethwait and Roger George took the oath at a City Council meeting. The council canvassed last Saturday’s election returns and approved the election judge’s report. Department heads presented the budget for the coming year.
Spring weather brings Straw Hat Days in Brady with men invited to shop for new straw hats. Participating merchants include Samuel's Huffman's Lintz's Perry's John's Boot West ern Store and Penneys. Straw hats are timely for wear now and into summer.
Brady High School presents the UIL winning play excerpts from Anastasia in a 35 minute performance Tuesday April 15 at 7 50 p m in the high school auditorium. The cast uses the event as a practice session ahead of regional competition April 19 at Texas Tech in Lubbock. Drama coach is Mrs Johnny Jones.
Miss Maedell Long’s Brady High School volleyball team captured the bi-district crown in Stephenville on Tuesday. They defeated Bridgeport in three games 15 to 1, 4 to 15, and 12 to 15, earning a spot to face the Atlanta winner in Denton at 2 p.m. Thursday.
District 8 AA track record notes include athletes from Brady Mason Lampasas Gatesville Fredericksburg and Llano with marks across 60 100 220 and 440 yard events plus relay totals. Names cited include Mike Virdell Sam Petty Mike Klett Happy Feller Lancaster Ronnie Rodrigue Pat Elliott James Mask Ramon Lafuente Puddin Jones Marty Walker Kurt Miller Frank Lafuente Jimmy Gomez and others with event times and distances from 1960 to 1969.
