Pirates Treasure Rumors Surface at Bob Hall Pier Dunes
Cozens reports recovered coin specimens from dunes at Bob Hall Pier about 75 miles north of Mansfield Cut. The finds are linked to the legendary pirate Jean Lafitte, said to have operated from New Orleans and Galveston and to have sunk a Spanish ship valued at $500 000 in 1810. A hull believed sunk earlier was found three miles south by beachcombers after Hurricane Carla, suggesting more sunken treasure may lie offshore.
