Brady pursues industrial growth by improving town shape. A flood lake, expanded schools, a new sewage plant, and a water tower boost distribution and supply. City utilities offer a draw to industry seeking economical water and power.
Governor Connally proclaims April 1 to 7 as Texas Industrial Week highlighting manufacturing as a major state income source. Brady’s industrial payrolls boost local commerce and jobs, with higher water and electricity use, more postal receipts, and thriving firms like Roddie Wool Scouring Co. and partners such as Loadcraft and Heart of Texas Mining contributing to economic progress.
Brady's annual Quarterhorse show accepts entries until 9 a.m. Saturday April 3 at Jubilee arena. About 100 entries expected. three new Youth Activities divisions added including showmanship at halter steer roping and reining. 28 classes total with various fees from 2 to 20 dollars. Championship trophies awarded. all-round youth trophy by AQHA for top points earner with at least three classes. Sponsored by McCulloch County Livestock Association approved by AQHA and QHA of West Texas. Halter judging starts 9 a.m. performance at 1 p.m. Grand champion Leo's Sunny Sam owned by J C Thompson of Saginaw.
Brady and the State of Texas celebrate Texas Industrial Week from April 17. The Standard salutes McCulloch County industries and their economic role in the Heart of Texas. Firms named include Brady National Bank City of Brady Commercial National Bank First National Bank of Melvin Higginbotham Lumber Co Loadcraft Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co Roddie Wool Scouring San Saba Division Penn Glass Sand Co and Young Ready-Mix Concrete.
The Brady Tuesday Club will present an exhibit of original artwork by McCulloch County school children on April 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Richards Memorial Library. Entries will be judged by Mrs. D. B. Brueggeman, district Fine Arts chair, and Federated Clubs of San Angelo members.
An McCulloch County meeting for cotton farmers at the Lohn Tabernacle Monday night April 5 at 7 30 will discuss boll weevil control. Newman Smith of Ballinger will speak on the pest that costs Texas cotton farmers millions annually. Light refreshments to be served.
Brady Bulldogs finished eighth among 16 teams at the Kerrville tourney as Coach Paul Huntington noted modest improvement the second day after a 329 first round and a 322 second round. Llano entered late while Brady and Llano are District 8-2A members with district play set for Saturday in Llano and a rematch April 10.
The Mason County Singing Convention will meet Sunday April 4 at 2 oclock at the First Methodist Church in Mason. The public is invited.
Brady postmaster Mrs. Barry C. Francks received the 1964 Distinguished Service Award from the Brady Chamber of Commerce at the CC Banquet attended by nearly 300. Dr. Charles W. Jarvis spoke as colleagues praised her extensive civic work and leadership in Rotary Lions Gold Star Mothers’ Club and Heart and Cancer Crusades.
Brady will hold two elections within a week. The Brady Independent School District trustee race features three incumbents Dr Harry Priess K K Steffens and Jean F Williams as the only candidates. The city aldermen race has seven candidates including incumbents Roger George W T Archer and Ralph Micklethwait along with Johnny Miller Odis Cox Ed Davenport and TD Williams. The top three vote-getters will win seats.
A film titled World’s Fair Encounter will be shown at First Baptist Church on Sunday April 4 at 7 p m. It follows two youths who visited the World’s Fair during its first season and offers their impressions of the film Man in the Sun Dimension as a symbol of spiritual meaning found amid the fair’s glitter and excitement.
From Carlsbad New Mexico Rev and Mrs Pete Allen recently joined Mr and Mrs Ray Brown for a few days at Paradise Point on Lake Buchanan. The Allens are now visiting Ola Allen his mother at Voca and Donald Cleven ger his sister and Hopper Allen his brother.
The Brady Band Boosters meet Monday at 7 30 in the new high school band hall. Refreshments will be served and members will tour the new facility. Several important business matters are to be addressed and band director James Mallow urges full attendance.
