By L B Smith a Brady Texas weather note celebrates ideal conditions after a dustier spell, with a hopeful forecast of spring wildflowers and drought easing rain across Texas. It cites McCulloch County industries and local business, plus saccharin debate and city police staffing clarifications.
Interest runs high as Brady voters prepare for city council and Brady Independent School District trustee races on Saturday. Four contested races appear, including three in the City Council, with all five city seats on the ballot.
City Hall figures show first quarter 1977 permits total 428800, led by E J Wall Co for a six room two bath home at 129 Parkview worth 80000. Commercial permits reach 55000 with eleven new residences in Brady and Brady Lake among the issued projects.
Brady High School students travel to Llano on Saturday April 16 for the District 24AA UIL contest joining Llano Burnet Leander San Saba and Marble Falls. Local contestants include William McDonald Lloyd Robles and others with events in Debate Speaking Poetry and Prose Reading. The district journalism contest was held in Marble Falls with results due April 16.
Carl D. McLeod, 59, died Wednesday at 11 45 in the Veterans Administration Hospital Big Spring after a short illness. Services were held Friday morning at Ellis Funeral Chapel Midland. Burial at 4 p m Union Band Cemetery near Pontotoc. Born August 8 1917 in Pontotoc he served in the Pacific Theater after entering the Army in 1942. He moved from Brady to Ozona then Midland and was married to Nelda Brock March 24 1941 in Brady. Survivors include his wife three daughters a son two brothers two sisters and five grandchildren. Also noted is his connection to White Co. Inc. Tax Assessor Collector John Lewis reported 75 absentee votes in the school election with polls open Saturday 8 a m to 7 p m. Voting boxes at Brady High School Industrial Arts building Spencer Engdahl judge Melvin Community Center Raymond Murray judge and Voca Community Center Clarence Salter judge.
Erdie Aulton Click 66 of Eden died at 1 55 pm Wednesday in Concho County Hospital after a long illness. Services 10 am Friday at Day Loveless Funeral Home Chapel Eden with burial in Millersview Cemetery. Born August 9 1910 in Vocca he married Opal Schuder in 1930 in Millersview. Survivors include his wife a son Dale Click two daughters Trenda Alexander Vaughnlie Hill one brother George Click five sisters Nancy Willis Edna Peterson Millie Minton Lottie Minton Charlie Lively nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Shannon 88 of Brady died Monday night at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Services were Thursday at Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Lamar Leifeste. burial in Rochelle Cemetery. Born August 15, 1888 in Coryell County, she lived in Brady all her life and was a Methodist. Survived by two daughters Anna Josephine Boring Cross Plains and Mary Berniece Hare Brady, two sons Dorman Dee Shannon San Angelo and Roy Leslie Shannon New Mexico, two brothers Levi Alvis Shannon Brady and Ewing Shannon Brownwood, and 16 grandchildren.
The Brady National Guard Unit Company C 3d Battalion 112th Armor 49th Armored Division will participate in Operation Lonestar from April 15 to May 31. The statewide campaign aims to recruit 1605 men and women for the division, announced by Captain Kenneth M. Franke.
