Twenty five Montague county landowners met at the Leona school to organize the Leona Game Management Association. G. E. Blackmon was elected chairman, Lee Tucker vice-chairman, and L. T. Hunter secretary-treasurer. A hundred game protection signs were ordered for placement around the property. A meeting is set for September 22 at the Leona school urging all landowners to attend.

Beginner Band To Be Organized at Local High School
The band director aims to enroll at least forty students in a new beginner band within two weeks. Applications were handed out on the first day of school and must be submitted soon. Parents should contact the band director within ten days to discuss instrument purchases. October 1 is the enrollment deadline. The high school band will be the largest since its existence, with forty eight members planned. thirteen will graduate, creating openings for new starters.
Two Fine Programs At Baptist Church Sunday

Mother and Son Killed Crossing Tracks in Corsicana Interurban
Mrs. Almeda Duncan 52 and her son Walter Duncan were killed when they stepped onto the Corsicana Interurban tracks while avoiding a street car. Mrs. Duncan was decapitated and both legs were severed. Walter suffered a broken neck after being hurled from the track.

Squalus Raised After 113 Days in Portsmouth Port

Mrs. Mattie B. Lindsay died Monday night at about 9 at her Lindale home after a stroke twelve hours earlier. Funeral at Lindale Church Tuesday at 4 with Rev. Kilgore and Rev. A J Quinn. Burial in Lindale Cemetery. Born July 27 1877 in Alabama she moved to Texas with her parents and married O L Lindsay in Montague County. Survived by husband five sons four daughters and seventeen grandchildren plus two brothers and five sisters.

Fire destroys home of Mr and Mrs Wolff on Newport road
The Wolff residence seven miles from town on Newport road was destroyed by fire around 8 am Tuesday. The origin is unknown. Mr and Mrs Wolff and their two youngest children were in a field and couldn't reach the house in time to save belongings. Mrs Wolff is a World War veteran who moved to the place last January. Their two sons attend Bowie High School and two daughters attend Leona school.

Safety Lane Inspectors Find Low Pass Rate in Bowie
In Bowie the Safety Lane run by the Department of Public Safety processed 1 472 cars on Monday and Tuesday with 844 defective findings. Of those, 166 cars earned safe ratings after reinspection. Defects by category included brakes 654 mufflers 177 lights 245 horns 120 steering 192 and windshields 258. Band Performs Last Concert In Summer Series
The Bowie City Band closed the summer series with a Saturday night concert at the Band stand drawing a large crowd.
