Camporee at Pelham Camp Park set for Friday and Saturday May 26 27 inviting Boy Scouts and Scouters from Bowie Nocona Henrietta Montague St. Jo Ringgold Petrolia Prairie Point and surrounding towns. About 150 Scouts and Scouters will attend with demonstrations fire making mapping first aid signalling and a Court of Honor led by Dale Eales Scoutmaster of troop 91 and Chief Peden Northwest Texas Council. Public welcome free events begin 4 PM Friday with troop check in and end with demonstrations and badge presentations.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Lee Hanchey and their son Horace will leave Bowie may 31 for Austin where Mr. Hanchey will run a self owned dry goods store. Mrs. Hanchey directs the First Methodist Church choir and teaches piano in Bowie and Montague. Horace is to remain in Texas while Helen Margaret Hanchey earns a Baylor University masters with high honors this month.

About thirty five farmers and dairymen attended the Wednesday meeting at W. F. Robinson farm. E. R. Eudaly Extension Service dairyman urged ample green pasture in summer and succulent winter feed, stressing cheap feed as essential for profit. He advised trench silos to save feed and encouraged all farmers to dig one. County Agent A. S. Elliott called the gathering highly interesting and instructive on Kenpene County dairy problems.

G. T. Stegall Burial Held for Local Resident
G T Stegall died at his brother D Stegall’s home in the Denver community Monday evening. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Smyrna school house with Rev B F Dearmore officiating and George Brashear in charge of music. Interment followed in Smyrna cemetery. Pallbearers were Harve Miller Bill Morris Walter Romines Paul Sutton Bruce Henderson and Joy Williams. He was born in North Carolina on November 17 1854 and lived in Texas since moving to Montague County forty one years ago. He had lived with his brother for twenty two years. Survivors include a sister Mrs E C Christen berg and several nieces and nephews.

J P Kearby Jr state highway engineer says concrete paving on Highway 81 will begin next week. Jess Insull leads the concrete paving project as superintendent, starting at sunset on eight and three tenths miles toward Bow. Grading and drainage were started previously by Austin Road Co under the paving contract.

Poppy Day Observance Sets May 27 Across State
Poppy Day, set for Saturday May 27, marks a nationwide drive to honor World War dead. Tragedy on the Rails Ends Life of Herbert Rollins
Herbert Rollins, about 23, was killed when struck by a northbound train on the Ft. Worth and Denver rails near Bowie. The body, scattered along a quarter mile, was identified by his father, and a coroner ruled accidental death. Rollins worked as a truck driver on Highway 59. Funeral arrangements are pending at Burgess Funeral Home. Survivors include his parents W. E. Rollins and several siblings.

The Bowie City Council met at the City Auditorium and voted to stop all free lights and water for Aldermen. Alderman salaries were raised from ten to eighteen dollars monthly. City employees’ vacation time increased from one week to two weeks.
