Bowie Schools Music Week a Grand Pageant of Color
The Bowie High program for National Music Week was a lavish show at the school auditorium. Dan L. Martin presided as the High School Band conducted by Geo Rucker performed a 15 minute set. Ward groups featured Chinese, garden, and Old Japan themes with students in native costumes and homemade kites. Poster awards were presented by Inez Rudy of the Federated Music Clubs of Texas to top students in North East and South wards for lettering design and color.

The Early Wheeler Peach Growers held a call meeting led by E C G Jameson to form a peach growers association focused on proper handling marketing price protection and growing. Committee chairs and county meetings were set for May 15 18 and 19 in Montague Sunset Bowie and the district court room. The bulletin notes peach success limited to five Texas counties with rare normal crops and warns rapid handling to prevent losses as this season’s crop may be one third to one half normal.

Vida Booker 20 died Saturday evening at Bowie Clinic Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at Oak Hill Tabernacle with Elder A F Thurman officiating. Born April 8 1917 she lived in Bowie most of her life and married J E Booker July 2 1931. Survived by husband three children parents six sisters four brothers and a grandmother all residing near Bowie.

Katheryn Cates Chumley, 90, of Pella near Alvord died May 6 after a long illness. Funeral rites were held Friday at Pella Cemetery with Rev. L F Nunner officiating. Born in Tennessee, she married Daniel R Chumley in 1861 and lived in Wise County 55 years. Survivors: Jim Chumley Alvord Dan Chumley Hollis Ruth Lyles Bowie. 34 grandchildren. Montague County to Get Auditor Under New Law
Gov. Allred signed House Bill 1122 creating County Auditor offices in counties with populations near 19 000. Montague County with 19 159 residents will be affected as the sole county in the range. The District Judge will appoint the auditor and all county expenditures must be approved. Judge Earl P. Hall will appoint Montague’s auditor soon.

Hen Lays Two Eggs In One Day Fact
On the John Parker poultry ranch two miles north of Bowie a hen laid a seven by eight inch egg with a smaller egg inside. Parker culled nonproductive hens, but this double egg was kept for supper. The Parkers ship most eggs to Wichita Falls and use White Leghorn stock.

Three Injured in City Tractor Crash in Bowie
A Thursday afternoon collision on East Wise street in Bowie involved a 1928 Chevrolet driven by Morris Matley. He sustained a serious head injury. Olin Beil and B M Duke suffered cuts and bruises while Pete Hill, Harris Huskey, and others were unhurt or treated. Matley remains in serious condition at Bowie Clinic Hospital. Beil and Duke received first aid and were discharged.
