Bowie High School Graduation Plans Announced

The Bowie High School commencement unfolds with Dr. James K. Thompson delivering the baccalaureate sermon on May 14 at 8 00 pm in the school auditorium. Jude Marvin Brown Sr of the Ft Worth Court of Civil Appeals gives the graduation address on May 15 with report cards issued May 22. Seventy seniors listed as candidates including Jane Branson and Virginia Dunenan among others.

Speake-Meyer Post Receives April Membership Award

Speake-Meyer Post Number 252 of the American Legion received a case of Texsum grapefruit juice from the Rio Grande Citrus Exchange. Bowie Baseball Club to Play Marlow Okla Sunday

The Bowie Baseball Club, recently organized, will host a game Sunday at 3:00 PM at Pelham Park against the Marlow Oklahoma team. Barney P. Whitehead serves as manager of the Bowie club.

1958 Payments Being Received by Farmers

Payments to farmers under the WSS Agricultural Conservation Program have begun arriving. This week about 900 Montague County farmers receive checks totaling 75,000, with about 8,000 participants overall slated to receive roughly 200,000. Remaining payments to come this month and next.

Twilight Musicale Opens Music Week in Bowie

The MacDowell Club presented a Twilight Musicale at Bowie Baptist Church featuring sacred works by ancient and modern composers. Concluding with vocal quartets, chorales, and piano pieces, the program honored Miss Inez Rudy and accompanist Mrs. Henry T. Arres.

Boy Scouts Camp at Bowie Lake

Lions Benefit Show Filming Set For Friday In Bowie

Filming for a Bowie Lions Club benefit project titled See Yourself and Your Town will begin Friday morning. The 1939 history of Bowie will be shot at the City Auditorium with scenes of high school students, band, football practice, Bowie babies, street scenes, business houses, schools, parks, city buildings, and historical points. Proceeds help Pelham Park and other causes.

Bowie Lions Club members joined the District 2-E convention in Mineral Wells. The Bowie High School Band competed for the Lions Band title, finishing third behind Cisco. District Governor-elect W. H. LaRoque of Cisco won over T. C. Jones of Ft. Worth.

Gasoline Explosion Injures Jim Cash At Martin Cafe

Jim Cash received second degree burns to his right leg arm and hand while pouring gasoline into a stove at the Martin Cafe on Mason street where he worked. The ensuing blaze damaged the cafe interior as firefighters responded early Monday to the incident.

Montague Baptist Assocation Plans One Day Camp Meeting
