Continental Oil makes new gas oil find at Queens Peak pool
The Continental Oil No. 1 Bates well near Queens Peak, four miles north of Bowie, shows gas in four minutes and oil in a 17 minute DST with oil saturation in the conglomerate. The well drilled 6,220 to 6,333 feet and produced 5,500 feet of free oil with bottom hole pressure 2,550. A second DST at 6,333 to 6,343 feet yielded 30 feet of oil cut mud. Other wells in the area and nearby fields are advancing as weather allows.

Bowie School Board with six members approved final plans to begin construction of the Band House. A committee will trade with the foreman, weather permitting work should start within a week. Lumber from Camp Maxey is staged on school grounds with two workers to stack it for carpenters. Total project cost so far is 3100 dollars. foundation is done and specially made doors and windows have arrived for a further 1100. The Band Parents Association raised 5000 to support the project amid obstacles from the State Department of Education and weather. The board favors early erection of the building.

City forms oil lease with Continental on Bowie Lake land
At a city council meeting a lease agreement with Continental Oil Company was approved for 281 acres of Bowie lake land. The city will receive 21000 cash plus 75 per acre, and 100 per acre upon production, with standard royalty terms and safeguards for water supply. Previously 80 acres were leased to C B Christie near the Miller discovery well west of Stoneburg.

E A Boyd, 93, prominent Bowie pioneer and land owner, died Monday after a long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from First Baptist Church with Rev G B Bradshaw officiating. Buried Selma Cemetery under Burgess Funeral Home direction. Born in South Carolina, he moved to Texas in 1876 and lived in Bowie over 50 years. Survived by widow, three daughters, one son, six grandchildren. grandsons were pallbearers.
