A boy named Boyd sustained a slight brain concussion in an automobile crash Thursday morning near Bowie. He received medical treatment at Bowie Hospital. Three other boys in the car escaped with minor cuts and bruises.
Governor James Y Allred opens his second term campaign in Waxahachie on June 30 with a statewide radio hookup from 5 PM to 9 30 PM The event expects a 10000 strong crowd with seven brass bands and delegations from El Paso Texarkana Amarillo and Brownsville The rally follows Allreds duties as Centennial Governor hosting President and Mrs Roosevelt and as a bid for Vice President at Philadelphia convention prior to a rapid campaign stretch through July.
W D Black announces summer meetings beginning July first at the Church of Christ. Services include Bible study 9 45 am worship 11 am and 815 pm with communion at 1145 am Prayer Meeting Wednesday 815 pm Ladies Bible Class Tuesday 4 pm.
The Reverend James Bullock from Sherman will preach at First Presbyterian Church Sunday. The church has been without a pastor since the death of Reverend J. T. Hall in September, and Bullock recently returned from study in Scotland and Germany. Bowie also bought a new Minute Man Six fire truck with 300 gallons capacity, boosting protection for outlying areas, along with a new road grader and two street-maintaining machines now in service.
A two part program titled Colonel Bowie and Texas of Today will be staged in Bowie July 10 and at the Texas Centennial Exposition July 13. A 250 member cast from Bowie figures, directed by Mrs Lynn Garlington, with Mrs John B Hunt as writer. Governor James Y Allred will close with a 15 minute radio time. The production celebrates Colonel Bowie and Texas heritage, ending with a dramatized Alamo scene and final song Texas Our Texas.
For over twenty years Bowie and Victory residents have enjoyed the open air airdome show. The Stallings Brothers now manage the venue with cushions supplied gratis and air that proves ideal for sound. Visitors new to the airdome are welcome guests.
Taylor Home Demonstration Club holds a June 17 meeting at the Taylor School House. Miss Ruth Farquhar explains cooking mild and strong flavored vegetables and methods to preserve color and minerals. Members and a visitor attend, with the next meeting set for July 1 at 2:00 P.M.
K. C. Spell of Wichita Falls was the principal speaker at a First Presbyterian Church banquet. The Bowie Lions installed T. H. Yarbrough as president M. Posey as second VP L. D. Eakman as third VP M. A. Bryan as secretary Ike Parks as treasurer Joe Fulcher as tail twister Dale Kales as lion tamer Roy Ross and Ogden Clerke as directors Nearly 50 members with wives and guests attended.
A political rally will be held on the Donale lot between the First National Bank and City Auditorium on July 4. The program starts with a 7 o'clock band concert and speaking at 7 30 followed by a Nocona versus Bowie All Star softball game. Loud seekers and seating provided.
Mr and Mrs Worley Wiseman and two children from the Lone Star plant at Petrolia and Miss Betty Jo and Robert Wiseman of Henrietta visited Mr and Mrs Ted Moore Thursday.
The Wednesday Bridge Club members visited Mrs. David Seitz on South Cooper Street at 3B6eck. Two tables played with high score to Mrs. Fred Gardner. high cut went to Irby. A salad course followed for a list of attendees.
A group enjoyed a goat barbecue and picnic at Baccus barbecue pit Tuesday night with many local couples and families. Community leaders Henry Moore and Temple Yarbrough attended the Wichita Falls Lions Club event at the Kemp Hotel Wednesday night.
The State Highway Department continues highway projects in Montague County with seven contracts worth 481 008 dollars awarded last year. Two contracts finished, another due for acceptance, and remaining work to be completed within two months. Payroll runs fifteen to twenty thousand dollars monthly, and future projects depend on funding and right of way issues as the department plans a large program for the county over the next two years.
A reading of the Southwest Montague County Singing Convention shows a gathering at Bowie City Auditorium on the fourth Sunday, June 28, starting 10 30 am. The program lists numerous class songs and specials by local quartets with leaders Barney Whitehead and G Jackson guiding the day in gospel praise.
C. C. Henson was robbed Tuesday night around 11 by two men as he drove into his garage. He was struck with a wrench and the robbers took about 31 dollars. He cannot identify his assailants.
