Mr. and Mrs. S. H. McVicker attended the funeral of Mrs. M. A. Knox in Mineral Wells. Bowie and area residents gathered for visits, parades, Lions events, and Red Cross plans. Attendees included Renne Allred Sr and Gov. James V. Allred, plus numerous families visiting Fort Worth, Dallas, and Wichita Falls.
The T E L Class of the Baptist Sunday school met at Mrs Lillian Raines home on Thursday June 11 at 7 pm. Mrs John Jackson presided and led prayer after opening with the 23rd Psalm. Members discussed improving the class and cheering the sick. A social hour followed with a book review by Miss Mary Beth Raines and a homemade meal served to members.
Funeral services for Emmett Sanders were conducted by Rev. O P Riker at his sister in law's home with burial in Elmwood cemetery. Sanders died in a Fort Worth hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Bowie on December 27 1913. He married Willette Gardner on May 12 1934 and survived by his wife, his father Ben R Sanders of Bowie, five brothers Wincey Bennie Sanders Bowie Robert Sanders Longview James Sanders El Campo Charles Sanders Alvin, three sisters Mrs Roy Smith San Antonio Mia Linnie Southard Electra and Mrs G Doc Jackson Bowie. Pallbearers included Alden Williams Rex Wesson Clint McDonald Paul Baecens Menton W M Ripple Weatherford and Leslie Speir.
Dr. Er Wright returns from Austin after attending State Board of Health meeting. Dr. Wilkinson leaves Bowie Clinic for Welcome Minnesota due to ill health. Mrs. Clyde Higgins of Sanderson recovering from major operation, moved to her mother’s home. Mrs. James Smith and her six day old son depart Bowie Clinic Hospital. Mrs. Sensibautsh of Blue Grove discharged to J S Eidson apartments. Kennard Karr and Joyce and Glenn Hoeldtke undergo tonsil removals. Elmer ONeal, 16 months, home after two weeks at Bowie Clinic Hospital following kerosene burn. Mrs. C H Thompson of Saint Jo admitted for typhoid diagnosis, later moved to Sunset. Dr A C Irby attending Smith.
