Groundwork has begun on a four room class addition at Lindale school. Bert Cassle of Bowie won the bid at 52 650 though reduced to 45 000. the modern 30 by 140 foot structure will connect with the eastward school by a covered walk. Completion missed for September start.
City Superintendent Elvin Robbins reports the road near the swimming pool is ready for asphalt work but ongoing rain has delayed paving plans.
Work has begun on a three room air conditioned office at the rear of Bob Posey’s building on North Mason Street. The 300 square foot addition includes a reception room and two office rooms connected by a sidewalk along the alley to the Whaley office.
Relatives in Bowie were informed Wednesday of Julius A. Coffield of Detroit Michigan dying Monday morning. Interment took place in a Detroit cemetery. He was the son of the late Walter H. and Ora Coffield of Bowie and half-brother to T. Roy Coffield and C. W. Coffield.
The Bowie Junior Chamber of Commerce runs a rabbit ownership rotation to recruit members. Five owners have held the rabbit in a week as new members were signed up. Art Lynch started the cycle and Gordon Heard ends up with custody awaiting new joiners. Heard invites calls to join Jaycees at Heard's Hardware.
A Montague County hearing will seek citizen input on regulations drawn up by the state Game and Fish Commission. The bill placing several counties under commission authority is already signed by the governor and becomes effective Sept. 6.
Montague Farmers Co-op reported continued asset growth at its annual meeting held last Thursday in Meyer park. Scott Whaley presided as Judge Louis Holland addressed the gathering. An auditor's report followed by reports from Whaley and manager Norman Heath, who presented patronage checks. G. E. Blackmon was re elected as director and Herman L. Cozart of Vashti was elected director for the first time.
Mrs E R Mangum of 221 Walnut Street Bowie wins the sixth and last week of the Coca Cola Bottling Co contest in the territory She receives a Ranchero Swing Away Grill a large portable Coca Cola picnic cooler and two twelve bottle cartons of Coca Cola Joe and Lynn Garlington owners of the Bowie Grocery where the entry blank was received are given a barbecue grill as well.
Ex congressman Ed Gossett of Dallas will speak at the Rotary installation banquet at 7 45 p m in the Morrow Coffee Shop banquet room. James Henderson to be installed as Rotary president succeeding Oliver Orton with Frank Moss Dr Berry Squyres and Erroll Eggleston also installed. Mrs J A Brite hospitalized with surgery at Medical Arts Hospital Dallas with daughter Mrs George Rucker visiting.
Apprentices at the Bow ie garment plant steadily advance toward full operator roles under resident manager Mrs. Werner and her husband Robert Werner, a retired industrial engineer. Opened June 6 with 5 operators, the plant now employs 28 operators and one man with several women testing the practice line as the company trains new staff.
Bowie Jaycees report the Mystery Milk Shopper prize pool rising to 42 with $15 for first and $9 each for second through fourth. No waitress has yet identified the shopper as clues circulate through the month. Winners announced June 30.
Firemen plan a four o clock Friday parade through Bowie to kick off the ninth annual rodeo to be held Friday and Saturday nights at eight. Six events carry a ten dollar entry fee with prize money totaling about seven hundred fifty dollars. Cowboys clubs from Chisholm Nocona Ft Worth Olney Healdton invited. Dancing each night at VFW hall with Dixie Boy Jordan's orchestra.
The Bowie Roping Club won first place at the Boom Town Rodeo parade in Burkburnett. Twelve riding clubs competed with Bowie placing first ahead of Wichita Falls Elks Club and Randlett Oklahoma Club. Other entrants included Shrine Masket Patrol Wichita Falls Clay County Henrietta Chisholm Trail Nocona Seymour Vernon Grandfield Mangum Mounties Lawton Olney Kamay Walters Mangum Marlow Breckenridge Riding Clubs.
Engineers were in Bowie on Tuesday examining the East Pecan city property for the purification and filtration plant planned with the new lake. They aim to fit the building without moving the city warehouse, and will relocate poles and pipe storage. John Arledge, a retiring city employee, remains critically ill after transfer to a Fort Worth hospital from Dallas. Mrs. Julian Bowman, awaiting jaw surgery, stays in Houston with address 1736 Norfolk, visiting her sister.
Four registrants of Local Draft Board No 93 are ordered to report for induction on July 26. Named are Alton L. Cook Albert L. Jones Monte L Robicheaux and Bob Askey. Zacharias E Pennington Jo L Harrell and Robert E Brazil are to report July 26 for pre induction physical exams.
Mrs. Earl Sansom secretary of Bowie Chamber of Commerce and owner of Bowie Merchants Assoc. earned a certificate of efficiency from the Associated Credit Bureaus of Texas after passing an extensive examination.

The Bowie Chamber of Commerce becomes incorporated after securing papers for the 4 y Benson and Benson. Directors at their regular meeting Monday night voted to incorporate last week while discussing funds for a garment factory. Mark High praised the North Texas and Southern Oklahoma Industrial Council and noted a brochure with Bowie area pictures to be issued soon.
Roy Williams discovered a vintage car tag bearing the town name Stoneburg while remodeling the Redman store room on Tarrant Street this week, recalling the era of town advertising tags on automobiles.
Rains over the weekend added 7.9 inches to the Bowie lake area and raised the June total to 21 inches. The lake holds 4 1/2 feet of water, a foot below last year's level, but well water supplies have increased. City officials expect no rationing unless drought returns, though restrictive rates remain to curb consumption.
James D Lcudder, arrested for driving while intoxicated, has trial reset to Wednesday July 6 at the Montague courthouse. The prior date of June 22 was moved. Guy Robert Hughes remains without a trial date. A case filed June 21 at the courthouse lists A D Peters charged with driving while intoxicated.
Tommy Morehead visited his sister Mrs. Harry Clark in Dallas last week highlighting family travel and kinship during a routine family sortie.
City crews finish plans to lower the road under the railroad on Mill Street. A four inch gravity sewer six inch pressure sewer and eight inch pressure water line were moved. Temporary water lines served three houses during the adjustment.
Jimmy Meyers son of Mr and Mrs Van Meyers of Bowie is a polio victim. Ill for a week, the year old boy has been receiving treatment at Bowie Clinic. Mr and Mrs George Rucker spent the weekend in East Texas visiting Mr Rucker's father at Grand Saline. Miss Virginia Harris visited her mother Mrs F E Harris over the weekend. Virginia works at the Chamber of Commerce office in Wichita Falls.
Miss Ann Bowman came home Tuesday from Lewisville where she attended the Presbyterian Camp last week and left Wednesday to return for another week at the camp.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Posey of Montague Highway welcomed a nine pound six ounce baby boy named Bobbie Wayne at Nocona Hospital on Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Laymon Appling provided news of the birth.
