The Bowie Roping Club schedules a three day rodeo from Thursday to Saturday with performances at 8:00 p.m. and a parade at 5:00 p.m. Judy Bob Reed of Madill Oklahoma is producer. Miss Jim Bowie entry deadline is midnight. contestants crowned June 29 at lunch and July 1 rodeo. Entries to Mrs. Billy Neeld. lunch by Senior Mothers Travel Club.
The 27th American Legion Boys State at the University of Texas began with 750 Texas high school students registering. Bowie entrants include Boyd Darrell Griffin, Charles Preston Barry, and Tommy Ray Tomlinson, sponsored by local posts. A Social Security Administration rep will visit Bowie on Monday June 19 at the Bowie National Bank Community Room from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
In a unanimous vote the council calls a city charter election for July 31 1967 and asks Citizens Advisory Council to appoint fifteen citizens to help draft the charter. Mayor Tucker says the charter protects citizens rights. The council moves the Second Monday trading grounds to Pelham Park with 500 spaces planned.
Bowie Chief of Police Dixon Latham urges residents to investigate before investing in telephone magazine sales. He cites a Bowie case of a salesman giving phony names and multiple companies to defraud people and warns surveys offering magazines for postage can cost the average person over 20 dollars yearly. He stresses careful verification of sellers before any purchase.
Margie Campbell daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Crenshaw of Belcherville has become an employee of Bowie National Bank. Her husband Linton Campbell owns Campbell's barber shop. The couple has two boys Linton Jr 13 and Lee. Margie previously worked at Bowle Electronics.
Bowie ponies excel at the Eleventh Annual Richland Hills Pony on the Americas Division Horse Show. Topper's Flash owned by Jack Slayden and ridden by Randy Cross placed second in Western Horsemanship and fourth in the barrel race. Flying Sally owned and ridden by Kent Sanders dominated Western Pleasure and scored high in Western Equitation, halter, and showmanship.

Pet owners can win prizes by entering in the Jim Bowie Days Kiddie Pet Parade set for Saturday July 1 at 2:00 PM. Rules restrict snakes and ill pets, require leashes or confinement, and require child entrants to register at First National Bank Drive-In Window at 12:30 PM for eligibility. Sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Police Chief Dixon Latham plans the Bowie Local Assistance Fund to aid needy residents of Bowie. The department currently has only 175 for the year, depleted after spending 25 every two weeks on groceries for two families. Contribute to the police fund via checks to Bowie Local Assistance Fund.
Mrs. Raymond Clement chairs the Tiny Tot Contest by the Bowie Chapter of the Young Homemakers of Texas. Deadline is June 15 for ages 2 to 4 who reside in Bowie Independent School District. Judging and crowning set for July 1 1967 at 6 00 p m in the City Auditorium with the beauty contest to follow.
Verlon Hudson owner of Miss Village Shoppe announces formal opening events running today through next week at the remodeled Smythe Street store in Bowie. A daily 2 1/2 hour drawing begins at 10 00 a m with a department sale every 2 1/2 hours during the three day event.
