Slicers Par-Tee Set to Tee Off Friday in Bowie
More than 100 golfers from across the United States and Hawaii will start the Bowie Slicers Golf Par Tee Friday at 8 30 a.m. Championship flights tee at 1 30 p.m. Final rounds and trophies Sunday. John Smith and Red Ramsey note perfect course conditions and predict 210 to win the 54 hole event. Favorites include Carl Hall Wichita Falls B H Alexander Wichita Falls Buddy Scott Lawton and John Smith Bowie. If rain delays happen, 27 holes may be played in one day and if only one day of play occurs the Bowie Knife title is at stake.

The Bowie Jackrabbits defeated Waco Connally 4-0 to claim the Class AA regional crown. Pitcher Mike Sutton held Connally to two scattered singles as Tommy Tomlinson belted two homers, including the first inning shot to power Bowie while Pat Robicheaux and Don Deweber drove in runs. Bowie ends 11-1 for the season. Connally struggles offensively.

Contestants from Bowie Independent School District will wear western wear and evening gowns with final crowning at City Auditorium on a Saturday at 7 PM. Splash Day at the Bowie swimming pool is set for Monday with W D Barnes noting a remodeling. admission prices are 25 or 50 cents, season tickets listed, no charge for Splash Day.

Troop A to Leave For Summer Camp Sunday
About 44 members of Troop A 2nd Squadron 124th Regiment Bowie will join more than 5 200 national guardsmen of the 49th Armored Division Sunday to begin two week field training at Fort Hood. The Bowie unit departs about 7 a m and returns June 18.
