Final day to pay poll tax in Bowie is Friday at the Bowie Independent School District tax office in the basement of the city auditorium. Exemption rules apply for those 21 since January 1942 and for residents over 60. Only 31 receipts had been issued locally Thursday, with many more expected Friday.
Donald W. Hawkins announces Wichita Falls office will stay open 48 hours per week from 8:00 A M to 5:00 P M Monday through Saturday. The change allows skilled workers not in essential war activity to register for wartime job opportunities at 723 10th Street.

Maj Cecil L Faulkner of Bellevue a Pacific veteran was cited for a bold New Guinea air battle. Flying a B 24 Liberator he engaged 25 zeros, downing 12 and damaging six more as his plane took fire with one engine ablaze. Faulkner previously earned the distinguished flying cross for a mission over enemy territory.

An order from the Petroleum Administrator for War requires stations to choose between a 72 hour week or a 24 seven operation starting January 23. 24 hour stations must serve all customers for 12 consecutive hours daily for six days and only vehicles with T stickers for the remaining time. 72 hour week stations may select their closing day.

Beginning February 1, all men 18 to 45 subject to the Selective Service must carry classification cards Form 57 and registration certificate Form 2. Both documents must be in the registrant's possession or face fines or imprisonment.
Motorists should check their anti-freeze immediately, warned J B Joyce deputy regional WPB director in charge of production service. WPB ordered the禁止 manufacture of anti-freeze solutions made from inorganic salts or petroleum distillates due to severe damage to radiators ignition systems and rubber connections.

Admission is a voluntary dime or more. all proceeds go to the infantile paralysis fund. The public is invited to participate in this worthy cause.
