More than 175 children received toys and warm clothing at the Community Tree event held at City Auditorium. M. A. Bryan of the Sons Club spoke, Rev. Breitenhirt gave the invocation, and Rev. Quinn discussed What is Christmas. Santa distributed gifts and spoke with attendees as Lions Club prepared food baskets for others. Carols by Mrs. Young’s students closed the program.

Several hundred people attended the Griffin's Drug Store opening in Bowie Thursday evening at 7 15 pm. Mrs J B Green Jr and Miss Pauline Lankford gave miniature chocolates as favors and drinks and cones were offered before 9 pm. A white chrysanthemum basket from Southwestern Dye Corporation of Fort Worth graced the center floor and a rose bouquet decorated the back bar. Clerks wore white jackets trimmed in green matching the store colors.
