Burley Box longtime Bowie Texas postal carrier retires after 35 years on Rural Route 3. He delivered 200 addresses, used horse drawn mail for a decade, and aided communities during illness crises and wars while serving in church and lodge roles.
Walter Humphrey of the Fort Worth Press visits Bowie News Office to spotlight soil conservation efforts and local progress. Bowie’s football team, led by Donald Bloom, gains praise for success, band, coaches, and community support as fans celebrate Friday night victory preparations in Fort Worth.
Mr and Mrs Jerry C Anderson left Tuesday for Artesia New Mexico where they will establish a new home Mr Anderson formerly owned the Fashion Tailor Shop and Mrs Anderson operated the Jack and Jill Shop and the Bowie Office Supply.
Logan Mills who ran the E Z Food Store on Mason street Bowie since 1946 and his brother Oliver Mills of Wichita Falls have purchased the store. It becomes the home owned M and M Store operated by the Mills brothers. Oliver has moved to Bowie with his wife and three sons. The oldest son is 13. The brothers plan store improvements and active community involvement.
The Sheppard and Luce Company finished ten blocks of street paving in Bowie and the City accepted and paid. The project cost about $30,000 with half funded by the City and half by property owners. Due to weather no further paving is planned before spring.
J E Brown announces a 10 am to 4 pm demonstration at his Tarrant street store. Mrs Hughes of Maytag will teach home freezing, cooking, and laundry techniques using Maytag appliances. Three cash prizes worth 100, 50, and 25 will be awarded on purchases.
A new Starr Company well on Joe Eanes land six miles southwest of Bowie blew out Wednesday at 11 PM spraying oil over nearby timber and ground. It shows production from the Caddo pay with no water and a bottom hole pressure of 1900 pounds.
The Church of the Nazarene hosts an all-day rally on Saturday December 4 with pastors from No cona Wichita Falls Electra Vernon Chilicothe Burkburnett and Quanah. Rev Luther Cantwell of Fort Worth Nazarene First Church will give the morning and afternoon messages. Services start at 10 am with lunch at noon and adjourn at 4 pm. Public invited.

The Bowie Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce sponsor a government supervised rat extermination drive on Tuesday December 14 with R E Wilson in charge. The program uses No 1080 poison and targets businesses while warning residents to pen pets on December 14 and 15 to avoid accidental pet deaths.
The Bowie Chamber of Commerce schedules a 2 PM Saturday meeting in the City Auditorium to discuss turkey growing expansion. Open to all interested men and women, the plan aims to aid growers financially and boost Montague county flocks with support from the chamber and local merchants.
A Texas oil field setting film titled Strike It Rich will play at the Bowie Majestic Theatre on Sunday and Monday December 5 and 6. Produced by Jack Wrather it stars Rod Cameron Bonita Granville and Don Castle attracting interest from oil industry readers and Bowie residents.
Bowie fans rush early to back the Jackrabbits as they travel to Farrington Memorial Stadium Fort Worth to face Irving in the Regional Class A playoff. Pre game tickets and bus plans lined up. Bowie won 14 to 13 over Holiday Eagles to reach this round.
Work is under way on an attractive residence for Bob Posey on his farm Ranchland four miles out on the Montague highway. Frank Green I T Price contractors of Bowie and E V Russell of Sunset are doing the work.
John W. Sells will retire December 4 after 29 years with Stanolind Pipe Line Company. He began September 5, 1919 as a construction linesman and worked in Tulsa and several Oklahoma towns, Topeka and Bowie. A farewell party with about 65 friends honored him November 27. The Sells plan to move to Blue Oklahoma to farm and raise cattle.
