Odessa tragedy shows oil crew brave in gas rescue

In Odessa last Saturday four oil field workers entered a gas filled cellar to rescue a comrade. Granville Torbet died, D B Stripling and Reiss Magness and Jack Hall collapsed. H F Guest survived yet was overcome. The piece honors their sacrifice and cites the biblical greater love quote.

Longtime Bowie Resident Mrs Maud A H Young Dies

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Bowie for Maud Alice Harrell Young a longtime Bowie resident and prominent community member. Interment followed at Oak Hill cemetery beside her husband Hogue Young. Surviving are two sons C H Young and H L Young four grandchildren and siblings J M Stubblefield and R E Harrell.

Paving Highway Construction Advances Toward Town

The Austin Road Company began paving the new highway linking E Wise Street with Highway 2 south of town. Work started past Black's Park with 1,950 feet left to pave and is expected to finish by week’s end before moving toward town.

Former Stoneburg resident buried in Nocona

Mrs. H. C. Pemberton, formerly of Stoneburg and recently living east of Belcherville, was buried in Nocona on Friday August 14. She was widely known in Bowie and mourned as a highly estimable lady by many friends and acquaintances.

Baptist Revival At First Bowie Church Draws Crowds

The First Baptist Church revival began Sunday in Bowie with strong attendance and new fellowship. Dr. W R Hornburg from Fort Worth and Mr. Curtis Williams of Fort Worth head the revival, delivering powerful sermons and drawing interest from surrounding communities including Leona. Williams also directs a large Junior Booster Band and teaches music in Fort Worth.
