Funeral services for Mrs Beulah Reynolds Simer were held at Perryman Cemetery near Forestburg with Rev B F Dearmore and Rev E H Marshall officiating. She died at a Bowie hospital after a long life, survived by her husband Alfred Simer and several siblings. Drilling began Saturday on well No 1 at the Junia L Brown place seven miles north of Bowie, with a 5000 foot test using a Big Emsco Diesel Motor rig costing about 98000.

National Guard Units Mobilize for Camp Hulen Trip
Sixty five enlisted men and three officers of the 111th Engineers National Guard from Montague County plan to leave Friday afternoon for Camp Hulen near Palacios. Local guardsmen will join others from Electra Wichita Falls and nearby towns for the southern trek. In charge are Captain A A Sadler First Lieutenant W F Robinson and Second Lieutenant Oran C Stovall with Thomas G Jones as first sergeant and Howard B Williams as second sergeant.

The Bowie Fire Department answered a call for aid at Park Springs just before noon Monday. Two small buildings housing Musgroves General Merchandise Store and Musgroves storage were completely destroyed. The department also aided Nocona and Ringgold recently as those towns faced heavy fire losses.

City of Bowie Plans Bond Refunding to Save Taxpayers
Mayor J C McNatt announced final passage of an ordinance refunding 920000 in bonds. City Council met Friday July 28 to authorize the move which will save about 10000 in interest by issuing bonds at 4 percent versus 5 and 6 percent. Old bonds mature 1966. new issue matures 1954. Two Small Boys Die In Burning Barn Tuesday
The Bedford boys Bobbie Lee age four and James Russell age three died in a barn fire at their Salona farm nine miles east of Bowie. Mrs. Bedford was hospitalized after reacting to the tragedy. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon with burial in Salona Cemetery. The accident follows local construction work resumption in Montague County.
