Bowie Athletes Win In Inter scholastic Track Meet

In the Montague County meet Bowie won with 71 points, ahead of Nocon a second with 65 and Saint Jo third. McBride of Nocona earned 20 points leading in multiple events including high jump and sprints, while Patterson of Bowie added 16 14 points with a broad jump, pole vault and relay.

Choral Clubs Win At Interscholastic Meet in Bowie

In last weeks Bowie News the rural schools with twenty one plus pupils were omitted from the Interscholastic meet report. Belcherville won the event with Lone Star second and Spencer third in the choral competition.

Bowie Fire Department Invites West Texas Association Meet

Bowie Fire Department invites the West Texas Firemen's Association to Bowie for a September all day meeting. About 300 firefighters with wives and relatives are expected to attend. The invitation will be extended at the Electra meeting on May 9 with strong Bowie representation.

James Sanders of A C C to Preach Sunday

Light Vote Cast in School Election

A light turnout occurred Saturday as two candidates for school trustees Sam Lovette and M Posey faced no opposition. Eighty votes were cast with Charlie Garrett winning County Trustee precinct two and George Wylie winning trustee at large. Incumbents G Doe Jackson T H Yarbrough D T Wilson Ike Parks Herman Conrad remained, with new members Loum Lovette and M Posey. Posey is a former board member running for reelection.

Final MacDowell Club offering features Norway lecture

Bowien music and nature lovers will see the last MacDowell Club Hollywood Art Series program on April 1 in the club room at 8 15 pm. Fiddle Band Contest Draws 2000 To Bowie Auditorium

An estimated crowd of 2,000 filled the City Auditorium Friday night for a fiddle band contest sponsored by the Bowie Chamber of Commerce. Bluegrove String Band won first prize of 15 dollars, Bellevue String Band took second for 10 dollars, and Jack County Acorn Threshers earned 5 dollars for third. A child performers concert by the Bluegrove group and local violin numbers highlighted the event.

Mary Elizabeth Dearmore Dies After Long Illness

Mary Elizabeth Dugan Dearmore a Bowie resident since 1914 died Friday night at home after years of poor health Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church and interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery Survivors include four sons Judge H N Dearmore Rev W E Dearmore Rev B F Dearmore and A J Dearmore twenty grandchildren forty three great grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren The family noted her long illness and recent inability to attend to duties with a sister Nannie Bazie having died the prior week Born November 8 1852 in Missouri she married J A Dearmore in 1870 in Arkansas later moving to Texas and Bowie

Sheep and goat raisers of Mon tague County will meet in the City Hall Auditorium basement Saturday at 2 50 p m. This second meeting will select a goat raiser for the Executive Committee alongside the sheep representative GG FE Blackman and County Agent Arvie S Elliott. W I Robinson Bowie postmaster and local National Guard officer was main speaker at the Rotary Club noon meeting. He outlined Guard funding, listing pay for personnel and camp costs along with rent and upkeep. J Lee Hanehey led singing, Earl Fitts welcomed as visitor, six new directors to be elected next week.

Funeral services for Edgar Browning in Vashti

Edgar G Browning 24 died from burns suffered February 27 at his Bowie area home. Funeral held Thursday at Vashti Methodist Church with Burgess Funeral Home directing. Survived by his parents Mr and Mrs G W Browning and three brothers living two miles west of Bowie.

Former Bowie resident buried here

Funeral services for E. W. Carling, 61, a former Bowie resident, were held at Bartlett Texas. The body was transported to Bowie for interment in Elmwood Cemetery beside a grave side service by the Bartlett Baptist minister. Survivors include his widow and two daughters.

Road Project Suspension Notice for Bowie Lateral Roads

KH L Andrews area engineer informs Road Commissioner Harry Stout that the Bowie project on seventeen miles of lateral roads will suspend after Friday April 7 due to Washington ordered employment cuts. Sixty men were employed from March 1.

Bowie High Band Excels at State Regional Contest

Bowie High Band earned third division ratings in marching and concert, second in sight reading, with six firsts and four seconds among eleven entries. Solo and ensemble results featured multiple first division honors for Bowie, including clarinet and quartet performances. The judging plan praised educational value while noting some intonation issues and instrumentation limits.
