Temple H. Yarbrough was elected president of the Bowie Lions Club at a Thursday meeting succeeding Henry Moore. Officers include E. T. McCauley first vice president M. Posey second vice president L D Eakman secretary M A Bryan treasurer Ike Parks tail twister Joe Fulcher lion tamer and directors Ogden Clarke Ray Ross. Proceeds from a recent burlesque show benefited Bowie bands. The group discussed a Civil War paper by F J Dixon as part of Texas historical programs. A committee was formed to arrange installation of officers on June 25.

The Salona Home Demonstration Club met at Mrs. Clyde Shaw's on June 2 to raise funds for a delegate to a short course. An entertainment and cake walk will be at the Salona schoolhouse on Friday night June 19 with cream sales. Members and guests were served cake and orangeade after the meeting. The next meeting is Tuesday June 16 at Mrs. Ben Tidwell's. all members urged to attend.

The monthly meeting of the Community Singers met at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the Cumberland Presbyterian church. President G. Jackson presided. Formed three years ago the group has grown popular inviting surrounding communities including Leona Taylor Stoneburg Lindale Lone Star Alamo Bird Hollow Brushy Fruitland Sunset Briar Creek Prairie Branch and Bowie, with each meeting at a different church in Bowie.

Mrs C F Aaron suffered a painful scalding to the left side of her face and arm when a potatoes can exploded during canning Friday evening. Her lips blistered but eyes unharmed. Neighbor Mrs Duncan provided first aid until Dr A C Irby arrived.
Mother Church meeting in Boston elects new president
About six thousand Christian Scientists from all states and many nations attended The Mother Church annual meeting in Boston. Mrs. Elizabeth Cadwell Tomlinson of Boston was elected president succeeding Dr. Frank C. Colby. The church added 22 new churches and eight university organizations, totaling 2751 branches and 55 college units. A native Philippine Island group formed a new branch.

Bowie Truck Driver Injured In Wreck Near Dallas
Roy Overstreet, driver of a White and Willett gasoline truck, was badly injured near Dallas when his vehicle plunged into a ditch to avoid an oncoming car. The tank forced into the cab, cutting a gash above the temple and causing wrist sprain and other bruises.

Ringgold Youth Dies After Surgery at Local Hospital
Billy Jo Stout four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stout of Ringgold died at a local hospital Wednesday night following an operation for a ruptured appendix. Funeral services were held Thursday at the First Christian church Ringgold with burial in Ringgold cemetery. He was born June 23 1932 in Ringgold and is survived by three brothers Carl Harry Lee Irvy Vaughn five sisters Eva Lee Clara Lodean Ethel Mae Dorothy Jean Sylvia Jean and Mrs Onetta Clement of Bowie plus grandparents Mrs J H Hudson Noegna and I N Stout of Ringgold.

Olds Officials Receive Texas Goodwill Scrolls
The Oldsmobile goodwill caravan in Texas delivered several scrolls of support. Nocona Man Shot Dies After Highway Wounding
Dee Bowerman aged 40 of Nocona died in a Gainesville hospital after being shot on the highway north of Muenster in Cooke county. His wife Connie Bowerman, 45, was jailed in Cooke county pending investigation by County Attorney William C. Culp after being arrested at a Gainesville bus station. Sheriff Luther McCollum said witnesses Hurley Stephens and Annette Neman described a quarrel between the pair preceding the shooting.
