Mrs Elizabeth Cady Stanton cast her first vote at the school election in Jounstrown New York today after moving from New Jersey since the Woman Suffrage law. Eighteen other ladies voted and a woman was elected trustee.
A massive labor demonstration in New York drew about 40,000 spectators as roughly 10,000 workers from printers to bricklayers passed through Centre Street to Union Square. In broad daylight the Rose Standish of the Boston and Hingham line was struck by the tug Wesley A. Gove as she began her voyage from Rowe's wharf. The Chinese flagship Yangwu allegedly exploded by a torpedo after firing on a French torpedo boat, whose boiler was later detonated by a hand grenade and then sunk by the Volta to prevent capture.
General Millot asks to be relieved of Tonquin command due to ill health and is replaced by General Briere Delisle. Re-enforcements for Admiral Courbet include transports from Toulon and two vessels from Brest set to depart in September.
