Washington May 28 The election case fight resumes in the House tomorrow with Mr Reed proposing a rules amendment to stop filibusters. A quorum is needed as many members are out on Decoration Day. Democrats may press impeachment of the speaker if he blocks adjournment under the rules. Some Republicans oppose drastic moves viewing them as dangerous to the party.
Washierton May 27 Guiteau comments on Her bert and Garfield affair. He calls the diabolical spirit of the author a curse on the publisher and outlines how proceeds of his books The Truth and The Removal should be handled if he dies. He says income from The Truth shall go to the Young Men's Christian Associations of New York and Chicago to fund gospel preaching.

The infant son of Charles H. and Georgie Leeman of Oak street swallowed a safety pin. It lodged near the root of the tongue and caused a violent coughing fit after eating apple on Friday. Two Swedish men registered as Jacobsen and Oliffssen at the California Hotel in Montreal. In Rappahannock Virginia last week Mrs Maria Bruce killed her ten year old stepdaughter Little Maria Bruce. The stepmother beat the child with an iron poker and burned the body after dousing it with kerosene. Neighbors found the partially roasted girl and the woman attempting to flee and she was arrested.
Willie Haley eleven of Pownal Vermont died after taking three teaspoons of paris green in a personal crisis. He had asked a neighbor how much poison would kill a boy and was told not much because he would vomit. His father died by suicide months earlier, suggesting a hereditary crisis.

In Fall River on May 25 a mishap at the Narragansett Works steamer wharf in Tiverton caused a tub to fall during fish hoisting. John Germain aged 2 was killed, and John Grinnell aged 18 was fatally injured.
In Chicago on May 29 three men were taken into custody over a plot to exhume and display Jesse James’s body. A local lecturer planned a talk on James’s career and had arranged for Mrs. James to appear on stage during a tour through eastern states.
Postmaster-General Howe and Western railway representatives discussed expediting the New York to San Francisco mail service. The plan targets a New York to Chicago mail train in 25 hours and Chicago to Omaha in 14, with overall reductions to cities including Omaha Cheyenne Denver and San Francisco.
