Katie McBride and Mollie Cleary, two young women from New Haven, left home last Thursday to view Forepaughs circus parade. They have not returned and friends fear for their fate. They were last seen on Chapel Street and possibly with two young men, whom they hoped would take them to the circus.
Mrs. Kitty Wells, daughter of a former New York General Assembly member and alleged relative of high officials, was arrested Friday night for shoplifting. A funnel shaped cyclone struck Racine Wisconsin at 7 pm causing 20 deaths and about 100 injuries. Homes and barns were demolished leaving debris and ruin along a half mile path. Many escaped to cellars as light articles and wagons were carried into Lake Michigan. A May 18 gale in northern Illinois escalated to a hurricane then cyclone near Harvard, sweeping Chemung, Lawrence and Alden. Unroofed houses and demolished unfinished lakefront expo buildings injuring several workers. Reports say multiple deaths, many wounded, telegraph lines down, and debris traps about twenty men.
A southwest funnel cloud struck Valparaiso in Sanders county blowing six houses and a school from foundations. A Union Pacific passenger train was hit near the town, wires down prevent full details. Fears rise for possible deaths and injuries. other areas unknown.
The cyclone struck Empire on the Louisville and Northern railroad destroying every miners family home, scattering goods for miles along a 500 yard wide path. Dustin May 21 Daniel Curley second man convicted in the murder of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr Burke was hanged at Kilmainham jail at 8 am. Priests attended him in his cell and in the prison chapel. A crowd of about 1000 showed sympathy as the black flag rose. Curley offered no statement and wrote to his wife that he would take his secrets to the grave.
A Caledonian railway heavy goods train from Carlisle collided with a Stranraer passenger express at Lockerby Junction, blocking the station. While locked, the Glasgow express struck, causing a double collision. Seven people were killed instantly and twenty or more injured seriously as carriages were smashed.

May 21 report of Willie Kingman nineteen who died after jumping from a new boat on Lake Assechamsett during a squall. He contracted malaria after a sun stroke last fall and his condition resists attempts to awaken him.
New York May 21 plans filed for a corner at Fifty-seventh street and Seventh Avenue for a ten story front with an attic and fifteen double rear stories reaching 182 feet. Architect Tyndall submitted the plan and Inspector Easterbrook said he would take time to consider approval.
In Kinesiron New York on May 21 Rev Augustus Blauvelt D D suspended by the Reformed Dutch Church in 1877 for heresy started a course of Sunday lectures on vital religious topics. He declared that all the heresies he has promulgated are simply the heresies of Jesus.
Chicago May 31 It is reported that Ben Jones son of ex Collector Jones of Chicago has been speculating in grain for others and sending around some $200000 to different parties in a series of grain deals.
Bismarck dispatch details a devastating flood at Deadwood caused by heavy rain and rapid snowmelt. Anxious scenes, destroyed buildings, and washed houses are reported along Deadwood gulches. Estimated damages rise to about 700000 with several towns listed as heavy losers and multiple lives feared lost.
May 21 report from Montpelier describes a massive forest fire along the Montpelier and Wells River line at Groton Pond. It destroyed the depot mill property and lumber stock, displaced about twenty families, and left severe property losses estimated above 100000 dollars for Alvah Baldwin. Fire crews from Montpelier failed to reach the blaze, and trains were delayed while the track was rebuilt.

Hartford May 21 The case of Mrs Julia Smith Parker of Glastonbury against Horace Smith her cousin to set aside an injunction is before the Superior Court. Testimony shows Horace opposed Julia marrying Mr Parker in 1879 then 90 years old and that he advised against it later went to Glastenbury from Vermont to take charge of the farm with an agreement he should have the property after her death but support her during life The case was adjourned.
Washington May 19 The Commissioner of the Freedmans Saving and Trust Company paid a final dividend of 7 percent, bringing total to 62 percent for creditors. Thousands of negroes in Washington were involved directly or indirectly in the company wreck and are receiving payments.
An east bound 911 car arrived at the Pennsylvania depot in Jersey City at 11 40 a m yesterday carrying a diverse group including seven real Indians four German band several colored men four Chinamen Irish factory boys from New Brunswick an Italian peddler Americans and three natives of New Jersey.
