Burna Vista Georgia May 9 A sensational case closes with the acquittal of James G Edwards of the alleged murder of his wife thirty years ago. Edwards, 74, had remarried a sixteen year old girl after his wife’s death. A grand jury indictment followed a prior color witness claiming he saw Edwards at the hanging. The winess was proven not to be in the neighborhood at the time.
Emily D Burton was arraigned and pleaded guilty to aiding her brother in law Allen W Dorsey in the murder of her father Benjamin J Burton. Attorney General Colt requested sentence and to proceed with the other two defendants. Physician reports delayed progress. Chief Justice Durfee withheld sentence to see if trial can occur this term.
The Department of Agriculture forestry division has prepared a schedule for observations of tree life and accompanying weather data to aid forestry work. It invites a large number of participants to apply for blanks, notes that the season is advanced and not all points may be taken this year, but partial reports are welcome.

Portspura May 9 The bodies of Charles W. Stives of Winnebago and the three year old daughter of G. Hillman of Minneapolis were incinerated in the same furnace and at the same hour this afternoon. The event, enabled by natural gas, marks the first known instance of a double cremation.

Pittsfield society woke to a society-shocking romance as Alice Cook daughter of Hon. George H Cook and sister-in-law of District Attorney Waterman, married coachman John Acres. The couple had kept their union quiet while Alice lived at the Waterman country seat overlooking Onoto Lake. Mrs Waterman, shocked and childless, faced a public scene and revealed she had not seen the marriage certificate. Acres, aged 23, left his days of service at Waterman’s home for a modest life in North Adams.
Deputy Marshal Gallupe brought John Gomez of New Bedford on piracy and passenger carriage charges. Heinrich Stern, a German engineer newly arrived in New York, claims to have perfected an Atlantic bridge plan. A cable would span to Europe with suspended carriages, and enormous fans along the line would rotate to counteract gravity. Three fans at ten mile intervals could generate currents to lift the cable trains.
New York May 9 arrangements have been made by E. H. Low for Henry E. Dixey and his Adonis company to travel to London. On Wednesday the Seventh Regiment band will play at the wharf before the steamer America departs, with friends accompanying Dixey by tugboat. Sixteen pigeons will carry messages to newspapers en route, and a final lot to be released 400 miles at sea. The voyage costs nearly $5000.
