Inheritance of the Meek Sermon on Conscience and Peace
The Brooklyn sermon analyzes meekness as a strong gentleness guiding moral action. It contrasts meekness with rage, cites Conscience as misused, and highlights General Butler’s restraint during a 1864 election as a model. It argues law, forbearance, and love will ultimately prevail and civilization trends toward kindness over violence.
