Love, theft and vengeance shadow a sailor's fate

In a colonial tale, Seaton betrays love and justice as he schemes to win Helen Rolleston. Wardlaw's wealth drives rivalries while Wardlaw and Helen depart for England aboard the Shannon and Proserpine, leaving Seaton to face guilt, disguise, and a grim police pursuit.

Wardlaw schemes a risky romance to rescue a failing firm

Wardlaw hides his plan from all but Michael Penfold. He travels to Australia to secure a marriage alliance with Helen Rolleston and to raise £90,000, while insuring the Shannon and Proserpine cargoes. Condell warns of doubling the Shannon’s insurance as Wardlaw pursues credit, deception, and perilous bets across oceans.
