Also noted are trials in Paris of five men for an attack on Socialist deputy Coccapelier, and a report from London on Parnell's ally Redmond organizing Irish land Leaguers in Australia.
In the House of Commons on April 2 3 p m Mr Gladstone replied to a question stating Parnell's statements made in Paris about the Kilmainham treaty are inaccurate.
Charles H. Hilton petitions for divorce from Laura M. Hilton in Superior Court. They wed October 19, 1876 while she was a high school pupil. the marriage was kept secret and the girl's mother knew nothing. She remained in school until 1880 and then left the state to teach, refusing to live with him.
After three years of separation the husband has seen nothing of her. Six months after marriage they did not live together. The defendant was absent. counsel said she only wished to resume her maiden name. The case was continued a week for the mother to testify.
A Washington despatch reports Rev. Jonathan Blanchard denouncing secret societies during a funeral for a young man active in the Grand Army of the Republic Knights of Pythias and Independent Order of Mechanics. The deceased's sister fainted as the family society conducted the rites. The father urged the preacher to stop. he refused and departed with his manuscript. A second clergyman later led the service to finish the ceremony.
A Cincinnati to Williamstown Ky rail accident on the Cincinnati Southern line threw locomotive and five coaches down an embankment after a broken rail. 127 passengers aboard, 53 in care, with several severely injured. Names of injured listed at Good Samaritan Hospital include Alfred Larris Daniel Hallam Lotta Thompson James Carrick Thomas Allan. A Saint Louis passenger was reported among the worst hurt.
The German vessel Else captained by Fennehakle completed a 102 day voyage from Liverpool to New York. Starting December 16, severe cold winds and gales, storms, and icebergs hampered progress. By March 9 the ship faced icebergs, with crew kept on short rations though provisions and water held out.
A 16-year-old from St Louis with red hair posed as a boy named John Paxton after injuring herself on an Iron Mountain train near Mill Spring. She has worked for Evans Russell in Mill Spring disguising as a laborer since age eight, later arrested for masquerading as a girl. Now in City Hospital with non serious injuries.
Northern New York papers describe extreme snow depths with drifts reaching ten feet above roads and houses nearly buried. Tales recount towns from Lowville to Leyden and Osceola where residents tunnel through snow to reach exits, barns, and milk houses, while a doctor trudges through three feet of drift over a telephone line.
Jersey City April 2 Whitmore of this city had business in Hudson county last Saturday took a buggy with his wife. They visited New Durham and were in good spirits. On the way home near Paterson plank road he had two slight convulsions, fell with his head on his breast, and died of heart disease. A stranger helped carry the lifeless body home.
Actor Emmet has a Venetian gondola for use on waters near his Albany residence. The craft measures 36 feet in length and 4 feet 6 inches in beam. When unloaded it draws about two inches of water amidships.
In Richford Vermont a young man named Osier died after swallowing lethal shots for boils. The dose was accidentally swallowed, traveled to the brain, and caused his death.
Snow and hail pounded the southwestern part of Tennessee yesterday after a hail storm. The storm continued incessantly through the day, disrupting activity in Lynchburg and surrounding areas as officials urged residents to seek shelter from the ongoing weather.

F H Corbin a druggist and father of two elopes with Lucy A Robbins of Newington. The deserted wife learned of infidelity when he claimed work kept him in Hartford. A policeman followed the pair from Main street to a room where they were seen. Robbins, 26, wealthy and well regarded, took $10,000 cash and is valued at about $50,000. Mrs Corbin seeks divorce on grounds of adultery since 1880.

They claim whites destroy timber on and near reservations, seize government supplies, endanger crops, and note five winter logging camps on the reservation and two outside, obstructing appeals to Washington. Father Ignatius Thomasini corroborates their statements, while they say tribal members cannot reach officials.
London April 1 The British government has decided to abolish scarlet and substitute gray as the color of the British soldiers uniforms.
A Fort Worth couple married without agreeing on finances with the boardinghouse landlady. After a week she billed double for both tenants, the groom refusing payment as he expected free boarding. On returning from a theatre the couple found the doors locked and their belongings on the sidewalk.
Newburyport Herald reports Miss Anna Jaques of Newburydonates 25000 for a free hospital serving Newburyport Newbury West Newbury Amesbury and Salisbury. Deeds place the money in trust with Dr F A owe and William H Swasey as trustees. In recent years she has given about 60000 for benevolent causes.
Officials report the brutal killing of Count Von Mailath, president of Hungary's Supreme tribunal, at his official residence. Burglars allegedly surprised him and choked him as they tried to suppress cries for help. All servants are detained on suspicion of complicity.
Wimpsor Vermont March 28. The state prison roll shows Emeline L Meaker the Waterbury child murderer added to the hangman list. On April 23 1880 she and her son Louis Almon Meaker killed Alice Meaker after torture and poisoning. The trial followed in Montpelier with Louis pleading guilty to save his mother but the verdict stood. Emeline Meaker was executed in March 1883, the first woman hanged in Vermont since 1808. The case also notes seven executions in four years and references earlier female poisoner Mrs Peak.
The 1880 case of Edwin C Hayden the wife killer dated February 26 1881 and the 1841 shooting by Royai Carr of an Indian peddler are cited as a blood stained record reflecting poorly on the State, highlighting a harsh indictment of justice and governance.

Phelan escaped through a door, unable to recall the number or exact place afterward.
Colonel Frederick A. Conkling visits his sister Miss Mary Conkling in Rochester where she lies in critical condition at City Hospital. Doctors had treated a bronchial affliction and heart disease with a plan for constant care. A recent outbreak of lung inflammation follows a bad cold, delaying improvements and raising concern.
Miss Mary Brooker, daughter of a prominent Farmington family, married her black coachman Joe Bradley after secretly meeting in Ashley Falls and Sheffield. Brooker pursued her to Ashley Falls but she refused to return, claiming happiness in the match despite family disgrace and distress.
Montpelier March 81 A 45 year old man named Smith started from his father William Smith s Barre home last Wednesday to reach an aunt in Orange. He was found frozen to death in the snow this morning near a house along the route. Indications show he crawled after falling and froze several rods away.
The question of what constitutes permanent or temporary filling of the postmaster general position has been sent to the attorney general for decision. It is believed Hatton serves temporarily and a permanent successor will be appointed by the next president or Hatton may be commissioned to act.
Five murderers were yesterday sentenced to be hanged. Frazier Copeland will hang at Walhalla on April 27 for the murder of William Hunnicut. William Hardie and Solomon Hewitt are slated for June 8 in Conwayboro for Jeremiah Stalvey’s murder. Riley Anderson is to hang in Greenville on May 18 for the murder of Louise Griffeth and her child. Sam Walker faces execution at Spartanburg on May 25 for Moses Hawkins’ murder.
Charles W. Oldfield of Lawrence cites Brown's Iron Bitters as more effective than any other medicine. The text notes a Dakota school mistress suing three young men for breach of promise and two school trustees for her salary while threatening a disparaging newspaper.

Mary Ann Dooley, a Chicago heiress, is charged with poisoning her mother who died under suspicious circumstances. A habeas corpus writ was granted by Judge Barrett and returnable immediately as Purdy arranged for a morning arraignment and hearing. The case follows a flight by the daughter and a suitor, with no will found and a $200,000 estate in question. Dooley protests innocence, claiming maternal love despite engagement tensions with John Sessions.
In New York the library of the late Dr David King of Newport R I was auctioned with spirited bidding for an uncut 1687 almanac Kalendarium Pennsilvaniense or Americas Messenger.
