Trial ends in mixup over Winstead murder verdict
In Philadelphia Mississippi the jury found Mrs Itel Winstead guilty of murdering her husband a wealthy mill owner after 48 hours. They could not agree on punishment and asked for all the favors the law will admit. The court informed life imprisonment is the minimum without a jury recommendation which two jurors say they would not have reached the verdict under that fact. Prosecutors opposed sending the jury back and Winstead attorneys moved to annul the verdict.
