In a tense pennant race finale, the Detroit Tigers secure a decisive win as Boston pitchers fail to halt the Tigers offense. Detailing key plays, the Tigers build an early lead and hold on through late innings, securing momentum heading into postseason play.
The Detroit Tigers routed the Boston Red Sox in a doubleheader, proving they are the leading team in the American League. Detroit dominated in batting, fielding, and base running, leaving little doubt of their superiority. The Red Sox, once considered contenders, were outplayed in both games and cannot match Detroit’s performance this season.

Officials note weather now allows pilots to attempt demonstrations, with preparations underway for the New York to Albany race start at One Hundred Ninth Street and Riverside Drive.
Cincinnati Sept 29 The National Commission released the schedule and eligibility for the world championship series between Pittsburg and either Detroit or Philadelphia. Games run Oct 8 9 in Pittsburg Oct 11 12 in Detroit or Philadelphia Oct 18 in Pittsburg Oct 14 in Detroit or Philadelphia Rain checks issued daily. Seventh game if needed to be in the designated city by the commission. Eligible players listed for Pittsburg and Detroit.
Dr Frederick A Cook receives a $25,000 payment from the New York Herald for his North Pole journey tale. The story runs in installments in the Herald and is reprinted in the Boston Post by arrangement.
New Haven hunter Harry Whitney, famed for his polar testimony about meeting Dr. Cook and Commander Peary, issues a statement from St. John’s Newfoundland. He explains why he did not retrieve Cook’s belongings after Peary refused to allow them on the Roosevelt, and notes Peary’s courtesies and the friendly relations among them. Whitney arrived at St John’s aboard the Jeanie from Greenland.
Harry Whitney details reasons for not returning to Utah after leaving Dr Cook's belongings with him in the Arctic. He cites engine trouble on the Jeanie, reliance on ships, obligations to Eskimos, desire to prolong the hunt, and belief that Peary would not have acted differently. Democratic delegates at the Quincy House shaped their state platform for the Faneuil Hall convention. Key planks call for income tax tariff reduction appointment of a State Tariff Commission and State Finance Director with direct nominations of U S Senators anti monopoly eight hour day abolition of lobby and state commissions. The ticket includes Eugene N Foss for Lieutenant Governor and Harvey N Shepard for attorney general as they seek to split the Republican vote. Vaheys rival Mayor John A Coughlin of Fall River is expected to withdraw with Vaheys apparent lead in the convention.
Ix-Mayor Fitzgerald James Donovan and William S. McNary met with Gov candidate Jonnigs Coughlin at Quincy House to urge withdrawal. Coughlin mildy considered the proposition and hinted he might refrain from presenting his name. Foss supports Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor and may name another Republican for treasurer. Possible Foss choice rivals Hall of Cambridge and Andrew G. Webster. Watertown's James H. Vahey would run for Lieutenant Governor with Cohasset's Eugene N. Foss for Attorney General. Boston's Harvey N. Shepard is listed for State Treasurer, while Cambridge's James M. W. Hall or Boston's Andrew G. Webster are named for Secretary of State, with the choice to be made in the western part of the state.
Alexis Boyer of Southbridge is associated with Foss Shepard Hall and Webster as Independent Republicans in a local party alignment.
