Lacey and son die by suicide after arrest news

John G Lacey, steward of the Fay Club in Fitchburg, and his son had been held on a serious charge brought by a boy. On Friday they were to face trial, but this afternoon both they and Mrs. Mary Lacey of 98 Pearl Street Fitchburg died by drowning in Lake Lashaway after the events.

Canton Ohio September 27 Eugene B Ely attempted a landing after circling the aviation field when his aircraft lost control and crashed striking Aviator Atwood's machine. Both men were dumped to the ground but not badly injured. Ely's plane suffered damage to one wing.

In windy conditions aviators kept flights near ground level with no sensational stunts. Ely in a three foot circle over the field misjudged a gust, lost plane control, and collided with Atwood as he took off. Ely suffered a blackened eye but was not seriously hurt while both aircraft crashed.

Chicago Sept 27 Managers of transcontinental railroads announced a general increase in all eastern to Pacific coast freight rates effective Nov 1 The change excludes commodity rates first class rates rise from New York to Pacific coast to 8 70 from Pittsburg 3 60 and Cincinnati 3 50 while class shipments remain about five percent of traffic.
