Mansfield wins a decisive victory carrying Boston by about 4500 and sweeping large cities and towns. Labor voters back Mansfield while overall turnout is light in smaller towns. Auditor Cook also secures a win as Democrats claim a heavy statewide defeat for machine leadership.
A Shawmut National Bank messenger lost a wallet containing 1800 to 2000 dollars at the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company after placing it on a shelf while having checks canceled. He returned and found the wallet gone.
The cage clerk signalled and doors were sealed as all exits were locked and staff searched. Shawmut Bank Vice-President Joy reported some loss last Wednesday with no employee under suspicion. Insurance firms and an investigator from New York are involved, with no further details available.
Trenton Sept 27 Senator James F Martine led the Democratic race for the United States Senate with 3428 votes to 2978 for John W Westcott from 353 of 1793 districts. In the GOP Frelinghuysen led former Governor Frank Murphy in 358 districts with 138482 to 11971.

Private Hugh Clark of D Company Holyoke was dishonorably discharged and sentenced to six months at hard labor after a general court martial found he misrepresented camp conditions in a newspaper article. The verdict received approval from General Pershing and the War Department in Columbus New Mexico.
Clark is to be sent to Fort Bliss immediately and then to Fort Leavenworth where his sentence starts on arrival. He forfeits all pay and allowances as a soldier. John J. Mansfield carried Boston by 4514 votes amid a split in state and city party leadership and a torn Democratic organization. Ex-Mayor Fitzgerald urged voters for Cole while Ex-Governor Walsh led a petition. Martin Lomasney and John F. Mc were also noted.
Labor leaders announce about 250000 union workers in various trades will quit tomorrow in New York to support striking car men. Officials say another 100000 will strike Thursday and 100000 more Friday, aiming for 450000 out by week end.
