Roe and Belford's Magazine in October Lippincott's review

The October Lippincott's opens with Roe's story Queen of Spades followed by his autobiography and criticism. The piece praises Roe's popular success, notes his religious sentimentality, and questions his literary standing while contrasting it with enduring value. Belford's Magazine is judged as mixed, with political pieces by Carlisle and tariff history, and a heavy dose of lightweight fiction and poor editorials.
