Atlanta race riot escalates as policemen slain and lynching reported

In Atlanta Georgia on September 24 a posse of county and city officers was ambushed by armed Negro men near Clark University. Boxer Killed in Ring in Portland Fight

A Philadelphia boxer's collapse and death ended a September 24 Portland match at the Portland Auditorium. Terry Martin struck Jack McKenzie over the heart with an uppercut near the round’s end, McKenzie staggered, returned two blows, then collapsed and died two minutes later after being moved to the dressing room.

Fires Claimed Basements on Prince and Endicott Streets

Three fires last night targeted basements at 79 Prince street at 10 45 pm, 104 Prince street at 11 01 pm, and 73 75 77 Endicott street at 11 05 pm. authorities classify as incendiary and are investigating the incidents.

Firebugs sparked three basements fires in North End tenements within twenty minutes starting at 97 Prince street. Residents fled in nightclothes as fire crews and police rescued families including Gedal Sloprotolsky and others, with one fireman Edward Coveney injured. About 2500 dollars in damage.

Thirty Smith College students were evacuated as a fire damaged a three story wooden lodging house two years old built by Miss Berthe Vincent head of the college French department.
