Jockey Bert Freishon Killed in Gravesend Race

Jockey Bert Freishon died instantly after his mount on Joe Levy was crushed by Louis H in the fifth race at Gravesend. Jockey C Ross suffered a fractured skull and was taken to Coney Island Emergency Hospital. G Burns fell but escaped injury as three horses collided during the selling event for 3 year olds and up over one mile and a quarter. Freishon, 16 or 17, a New Orleans native, showed promise and hoped to ride at 89 pounds.
