The Honorable Sylvester Littlefield, a well known merchant and public servant, died at his home in Alfred Maine. Born May 27 1820 in Wells Maine he was 66 years 3 months and 27 days old. He served in the Maine Legislature in 1857 and 1862 as county treasurer 1866 1867 assistant internal revenue assessor 1870 1871 1872 and presidential elector 1876. He chaired Alfreds board of selectmen for many years and was active in the Methodist Episcopal Church and local education. His wife the daughter of the late Hon Benjamin J Herrick survives him. He was known for his courteous manners and devotion to family.

Yesterday afternoon at Highland Church Roxbury the funeral of John C. Proctor was led by the pastor and Rev. A. E. Dunning national secretary of the Congregational Sunday schools. The Orthodox Superintendents Union attended and the church infant class with about 200 members, in which Mr. Proctor had long served as superintendent, sent flowers and songs. The church was crowded and the service very impressive.
