A New York evening paper with a Boston date line claims the Massachusetts Public Service Commission has shifted to approve a $67,000,000 New Haven bond. Commissioner George Bishop calls the report false, saying final arguments are not until Wednesday. Commissioner White also calls it untrue.
The Athletics clinched the pennant by sweeping Detroit in a double header, leaving the path to the title clear even if they lose all remaining games. With 21 games completed against St. Louis, the season ends Oct 5, and both clubs have unfinished schedules that could not alter the outcome. The Naps hold 93 wins and 60 losses for a .608 mark, while the Athletics sit at 93-61 for a .604 percentage.
Albany New York September 22 The high court of impeachment voted 51 to 1 to require Governor William Sulzer to stand trial. Four Senators and Judge Gray were absent with Senator Gottfried H Wende the sole dissenter. The court had previously blocked four sitting Senators from participating and will consider impeachable grounds in further proceedings.
Miss Doris Lorraine Robinson, 18, a Malden Hospital nurse, escaped with her life after an armed man stabbed her Sunday evening. Hospital officials and police praise her heroism as she recovers from nonfatal wounds, two flesh wounds with a downward stroke. Police search for the attacker. Continued on Page 3-First Column

Tension over Home Rule resurfaces as T B Fitzpatrick of Boston returns from abroad. He denies the story of an imminent bill passage, noting conversations in England with John Dillon and a Liverpool meeting. Former Congressman Joseph H O Neil doubts an English election mandate will follow soon.
Concord New Hampshire Sept 22 Mrs Mary Copley Thaw mother of Harry Kendall Thaw arrived from Pittsburg tonight. The fugitive greeted by kisses as he embraced his mother and brother Josiah in a joyous reunion. Thaw praised the defeat of Jerome plan to indict him on conspiracy charges in New York and expected Governor Felker to refuse extradition ahead of tomorrow’s hearing.
Jerome expected to arrive late tonight. Rumors swirl that Thaw and his lawyers hope to postpone tomorrow's hearing by a week or two. Thaw, speaking to the Post, urged New Hampshire residents to aid his return to Pennsylvania to be with his mother and restore some peace to her life. He denied rumors of becoming a Manchester citizen and said he has friends there.
