John Hoyle, a lad of Seekonk, was accidentally shot by farmer Edward Greene while Hoyle drove away neighbor hens onto Greene’s property. A buckshot load struck Hoyle’s skull, side, arm, and body. four bullets were removed and the head wound proved fatal to his prospects of recovery. Dr. Allison attended.
In Boston and across Massachusetts Greenhalge gains momentum as convention delegates tilt toward his camp. Hart Pillsbury factions report strong showings in cities like Chelsea and Boston while Greenhalge claims majorities in Springfield Taunton Fitchburg Newburyport and Brockton. Greenhalge leaders estimate pledged delegates approach 1000 with potential to surpass 1400 as caucuses finalize.

A two masted schooner sank off Chatham last night likely after a steamer collision. The wreck poses a dangerous navigation hazard at night and the crew’s fate is unknown. Nearby schooner Annie G of Parrsboro arrived at Vineyard Haven reporting being struck while anchored on Nantucket Shoals on Sept 20, sustaining slight damage and an injured captain.

The Richardson & Dennie collapse in early May exposed a firm with assets likely 75 000 to 100 000 against 640 000 in liabilities.
