Hunt for wild man in woods near Malden Melrose line

Malden and Melrose police under Inspector George Greenleaf scoured Pine Banks Park area hunting a nude man seen wandering the hills. Daily calls report sightings as officers believe he is demented and perhaps imitating an artist. A hut was found where he has been living. no sighting since yesterday.

Boy Scout Shot by Companion in Rumford

Raymond Henry aged 18 died at a Rumford hospital from a head wound after a .22 rifle fired during Boy Scout drills. Joseph McCleary, 14, who fired the rifle, was absolved of blame. The accident happened about a mile from town center during the scouting exercise. Witnesses described the shooting as accidental and the boy stepped into the line of fire.

Runaway Horse Team Dragged Driver On Brighton Bridge

A pair of horses driven by Rosario Caparella bolted on the Brighton side of stadium bridge yesterday afternoon. Caparella's left leg got tangled in the harness and he was dragged about 50 feet along the highway. He was knocked unconscious and transported by ambulance to City Hospital.

Tongue Cut Off Sewed In Place After Truck Accident

Buffalo report states Patrick Quinlan a teamster had his tongue sewed back after a heavy truck wheel ran over his jaw. He suffered additional injuries and may recover speech in about a month if he survives.

Canoeists Lost in Fog Off Boston Waterfront

Two canoeists a man and a woman paddled seaward from the Charles River Basin into a heavy fog. Observers on shore watched as a motor boat searched the harbor, but neither canoeist was seen again leaving authorities to scour the bay through the mist.

The fire masted schooner Helen W. Martin, stranded on Hawes Shoal in Nantucket Sound, was floated by the revenue cutter Acushnet and anchored off Cape Page. Damages not yet known, but ship appears able to proceed as fog clears.

Unidentified Man Collapses on Tremont Street

An unidentified man about 60 collapses on Tremont and Appleton streets yesterday afternoon and is in City Hospital with cerebral hemorrhage. He is 5 feet 9 inches, about 150 pounds, with blue eyes, gray hair and mustache, wearing gray trousers and coat, white shirt with striped bosom, cotton underwear, black shoes and yellow stockings.

Berlin reports Dr. Jackh of Hamburg analyzed love trajectories in men and women. He concludes the male capacity peaks at ages 24 to 26 while the female curve peaks between 30 and 34, based on scientific principles and diagrammatic data.

Catholic Church Notes in Brighton and Boston Area

The dedication of a new statue at Passionist Blessed Gabriel Monastery in Brighton was postponed to next Sunday at 8 30. Boston College president Rev Thomas I Gasson will preach a retreat at the Cenacle in Lake Street from Oct 10 to 14 for women clerks and stenographers of the Guild of St Genesius of Arles, with others welcome. An open meeting at St Joseph's Guild of Somerville marks its season start, inviting Catholic women to join. the guild now lists nearly 200 members. An autumn party will be hosted at St Mary’s Hall East Boston by the Star of the Sea reunion committee. The Catholic Federation of the Archdiocese of Boston will hold its semi annual convention at St Alphonsus Hall Roxbury next Sunday at 2 PM.

Fog Forces Shipping Delays in Harbor After Dense Mist

Heavy fog tied up harbor traffic delaying sailings beyond the daily passenger schedule. Ferries moved slowly across the inner bay as incoming ships navigated by fog signals. Tugboats with barges and 17 schooners postponed sailing dates while steamers slowed to safe speed and extra lookouts were posted.
