John Fitzpatrick, head of the steel unions conference, conferred with AFL President Gompers in Washington and said the steel walkout would begin Monday with no change in the situation. In Pittsburgh preparations continued as steel plants planned to operate and both sides eyed a firm test of strength in the looming strike.
Sterling Sept 19 George E Peese constable was shot and killed on Main Street by one of four women said to be from Worcester after quieting a disturbance at a roadside inn. He confronted a disturber and was killed with one shot after an earlier intervention with John MacDonald. The four escape.

Further checks aim to confirm the ship’s identity and the fate of the 450 aboard.

Late last night Superintendent Crowley ordered all city restaurants to close at midnight and stay shut until 4 am. The measure remains in effect until further notice.

New York city police say Molly Rosen a 16 year old girl who confessed to a three month spree robbed 50 apartments in the Hunters Point section of the Bronx. She was held in 2500 bail for examination next Monday.
The alleged confessor described three apartment raids daily, later scaling to eight hours a day six days weekly. She admitted to stealing about $3000 cash and $3000 in jewelry, entering unlocked flats by posing as a visitor, sometimes crying to avoid capture, and was finally arrested after attempting a subway motorman’s pockets.
