Hood & Sons announced that all milk will rise one cent per quart starting October 1. The move follows the standard practice with other Boston dealers. Hood reports a farmer price range of 41 to 42.5 cents per 8 1 2 quart can, near producer asks, aiming to avoid a milk war with contractors.
The firm offers six cent per quart milk to city government charities and chambers of commerce at the railroad, nine cents to the poor at distributing stations, creameries, and pints for customers buying over one quart. Retail milk in Boston rises 2 percent in five years while producer prices climb 34 percent.
Burdett College announces night sessions start October 2 with day students admitted every Monday at 18 Boylston Street.
In Manhattan the fiercest rioting since the transit strike began two weeks ago broke out as crowds attempted to run cars on the Forty second and Fifty ninth street crosstown lines. Striker mobs stormed two car barns, overpowered police and drove off nearby railway workers, with unaligned motormen and conductors assaulted. Reserves were requested, though arrival was slow.
Police report strikers exploited officer redeployments to polling duties as violence erupted citywide. At Forty second Street and Broadway a crowd pelted a subway car with stones while passengers fled. Surface cars were sent to barns, arrests were made, and rioters were clubbed amid attacks on elevated trains.
In Cleveland on September 19 W. G. Lee head of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen issued a bulletin urging labor support for President Wilson in his bid for re election. The call asks members to back Wilson and loyal lawmakers regardless of party and to use all honorable means to keep in office those who have shown loyalty to labor. Similar bulletins were issued by Warren S. Stone A B Garretson and W S Carter of other rail labor groups.
The Most Rev Alfred A Sinnott will be consecrated archbishop of Winnipeg tomorrow after celebrating his first public mass at Mission Church Roxbury. Boston friends expected include Mr and Mrs T D McInerney of 48 Downer Avenue Dorchester, his brother in law and sister.
New York on September 20 reports Governor Whitman leading against Judge Samuel Seabury for the Progressive nomination after yesterday's primaries. Whitman seeks renomination, while Seabury remains Democratic candidate.
Roosevelt endorsed Whitman and urged Progressives not to back Seabury. In the statewide Senate primary Calder led Bacon and McCombs won the Democratic nomination over Conway. At 2:15 AM Calder led Bacon by about 1200 with 109,551 to 108,364 across 4124 of 5719 districts reporting.
Reports from the near east indicate Trieste, the major Austrian seaport, is near fall. Athens sources say Austria plans evacuation while Vienna confirms Italian artillery advances along the Corso plateau and reduced Austrian infantry activity as they pull back.
Despite a lull on the Somme, heavy fighting continues on the Eastern front in Russia Galicia and Romania while southern fronts in Macedonia see active clashes amid harsh weather and bad conditions.
Hancock, Sept. 19 Joseph Kuhn has shaved himself since age 13 using the same razor and never honed it. Now 85, he has shaved about 7488 times, implying savings of at least $1000 if each shave cost 10 cents at a barber.
Minority holders protested for three hours at a special Boston & Maine stockholders meeting in the North station building. They ultimately voted overwhelmingly to support the directors and endorsed receivership as the path to elevating the railroad to a broader financial basis.

Rioting by strikers of the A. G. Walton & Company shoe factory in Chelsea after 5 pm led to bricks and missiles being thrown and several injuries. Only Aleck Hall, 23, of Spruce Street, was arrested for assault and to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court this morning.
Boston businessman Frank Crocker described how the blackmail scheme operated in a massive conspiracy. Federal sources hinted two more gangs were near capture as authorities, including Department Chief Clabaugh, moved to resolve tensions between Washington and the Chicago district attorney over the case.
Henry W. Staples longtime proprietor of the Old Orchard House and Old Orchard's largest hotel died of heart disease at his Biddeford home. He was 77.
Madame Luisa Villani of the National Grand Opera Company advised stout women to worry less and work more. She told reporters in Boston that hard work helped her reduce weight more than costly anti fat treatments. Madame Miura, her Japanese colleague, accompanied her as she toured Boston after five years of marriage.
Eleven pounds of opium and two large diamonds were seized last night aboard the steamship Virginian docked at Pier 26 Mystic wharf Charlestown. Tony Chin of Honolulu, aged 39, alleged to have run the goods, was arrested for smuggling and jailed at Station 15. The Virginian had just arrived from St Nazaire France.
In New London Conn Sept 19 officials of the Eastern Forwarding Company continue wartime sub hunt. The tug T A Scott Jr sails again to sea to seek a periscope while a second boat carries reporters nearby.
Boston beat Detroit to extend its lead by a full game and boost its percentage. Detroit clung to second place with Chicago now a half game back, as Detroit sits 83 62 72.41 and Chicago 82 62 56.04 in the standings.
Detroit report says the Red Sox, led by Mays' pitching and timely hitting, overcame the Cubs as George Davis strained his arm on the mound and Boston earned the first score in a 3 to 1 victory.
Nearly 15 000 fans watched a tense nine inning clash between Detroit and Boston. A fierce, clean contest stayed undecided to the end with both sides showing fire and dash and few complaints typical of the White Sox in Chicago.
In the American League games Boston defeated Detroit 3 to 1, Chicago beat Philadelphia 5 to 4, Washington topped Cleveland 9 to 6, and New York edged St. Louis 4 to 3 after 15 innings. In the National League Boston won 6 to 3 over St. Louis, Brooklyn 3 Cincinnati 1, Chicago 2 Philadelphia 0, New York 9 Pittsburgh 2 in the first game, and New York 5 Pittsburgh 1 in the second game.
Notable dates include Robert Emmet's execution in 1803, Chester A. Arthur's presidential oath in 1881, and the 1914 Rheims Cathedral destruction by German bombardment marking World War I milestones.
