A crowd of about 200 attacked a car and the police station, injuring and arresting Irving Ward and Henry Strout. Officers used clubs to disperse the mob, breaking windows at the station before restraining the crowd. The incident interrupted streetcar service and followed labor unrest with unions condemning bonds.
A young man about 20 falls overboard from the Boston & Maine railroad bridge in the Southern Division at 10 last night. Brakemen Charles H. McCarthy and William Hoey dive to aid but the tide negates rescue. He was about 5 feet 7, light complexion, mustache, 140 pounds.
Citizens are warned that a new law blocks voting for anyone not assessed by October 1. The notice urges Democrats to check the voter list now and get assessed if their names are missing to be able to vote in state or municipal elections this year.
Inspector Douglass halted two hours of arrests delivering five shoplifters to the basement office. The haul included brushes, shoes, ribbons, bags, garments, and other goods valued in the tens of dollars. Names include Margaret Cliff and Helen Becker among seven defendants. All detained overnight at the Tombs awaiting arraignment.
