Russia as Eden for Workers
P P Cosgrave of Boston told 1200 workers at the Grand Opera House that life in Soviet Russia offers free rooms, shaved heads, barber services, and free meals, while theater, transit, and elite performers are available to workers. He noted 15 to 20 million starving in the Volga district but blamed weather and European plutocrats, not Soviet Russia, for shortages. The event, organized by the Russian famine relief conference, raised $800 on stage for relief work amid pro Soviet rhetoric from speakers including Louis E Henderson and Charles E Roberts.
