A 13 year old George Bernier dies after being whipped aloft by a batten rope during balloon inflation at a Woodstock, Connecticut fair. He held a guy rope and was carried up as Harold Gates of Newburyport, Massachusetts began his ascent, the rope unwinding and the boy being dropped to death before 5000 spectators.
