In Rochester New Hampshire on September 15 Dr. L G Verrill’s robin attracted his large yellow cat halting a chase that would have ended in a car loss the pet bird diverted the feline and spared the new Ford touring car from damage.
Sixty five gamecocks seized two months ago at Al Jones farm Millbury Junction were ordered killed by Sheriff Albert Richardson. Jones found guilty of keeping fowl to fight them and faces a $200 fine. The birds will be sent to public institutions for inmates after execution.
Study evenings prepare for better business positions and CPA exams. Small classes led by Walter B. Morgan CPA, formerly dean at Pace Institute Boston. Classes begin Sept. 27 with prospectus available by phone or mail from Tremont Street Boston or Hospital Trust Building Providence.
Dallas Lore Sharp a Democratic candidate for the U S Senate congratulates Col William A Gaston on his nomination. Sharp calls Senator Lodge a menace to the nation and the world and expects a sweeping victory in November in a Boston letter dated September 13 1922.
National League games saw Boston beat Pittsburg 4 to 1, Brooklyn 7 Cincinnati 2, New York 7 Chicago 4, Philadelphia 10 St. Louis 9. American League included St. Louis 7 Boston 1 and Chicago 2 New York 1. Eastern League reports Hartford 6 Albany 2, Bridgeport 3 Pittsfield 2 in 10 innings, Springfield 8 Worcester 3 first game, Worcester 8 Springfield 7 second, Waterbury 4 New Haven 43 in 16 innings before darkness.
A violent storm last night and early today caused two barns to burn north of Boston and along the Merrimack River valley. Lightning, rain, and outages disrupted telephone and electric service in several towns. The blast damaged highways and crops with thousands of dollars in losses. The storm, centered near Concord and Maynard, produced heavy thunder and fears of factory explosions. Boston was hit about 2 a.m. with continued bolts of lightning across the valley.
Benjamin Greenwald, 42, was arrested at his home on charges of being a fugitive from justice. He is wanted in Boston on grand larceny and conspiracy, with Liability Insurance Company of Boston the complainant. He allegedly obtained over $10,000 from policies by a contortionist act.
The Soldiers' Bonus Bill awaits President Harding's action after Senate approval of the conference report by 36 to 17. The House already passed it, and delivery to the President is expected tomorrow or Monday.
A despatch from Athens to the Times cites John Manola of American relief as saying Smyrna’s dead total at least 120000 up to Thursday morning. The report notes the Greek relief official’s authority for the figure.
From Smyrna a high casualty report notes a two day blaze destroying much of the city. Reliable sources say thousands are believed to have perished, with only the Turkish quarter remaining standing.
Dill Altman of Kane Pennsylvania, famed hunter and solitary observer, forecasts a long winter with heavy snows and extended freezing. He plans to reveal storm periods and extreme low temperatures later, a prediction that drew inquiries from the U S Weather Bureau after his earlier cold spring and summer forecast.
West Barnstable Sept 15 Mrs Annie K Taylor of Haverhill wife of H M Taylor was fatally injured and Mrs J O Ellison wife of a local automobile dealer was critically injured when the_auto carriage was struck by an express train at Proctors Crossing at 4 27 this afternoon.
Mrs Ellison and her sister in law Mrs Taylor were injured in a train collision near a Cape Cod crossing. Mrs Ellison suffers a broken collarbone a broken right arm and possible internal injuries in critical condition. They were returning from Sea Pine School Brewster after taking Greta Ellison home for the fall term.
At Camp Devens on Sept 15 General Edwards said goodbye to 6000 regulars as orders transfer them to winter stations across New England. He spoke of not seeing many again and thanked the men who served under him in France, preserving their devotion to him as their commander and friend.

At Oak Bluffs on September 15 14 year old Wrick Boxall Cambridge battled rough seas for over an hour to keep Jose Garrett and Richard Lane afloat after a knockabout sailboat capsized about a mile off shore in heavy surf. Garrett was rescued exhausted while Lane perished.
A shoreline mishap marred a merry sailing outing as a seaside party ended in tragedy. The gathering of late summer visitors at the shore was disrupted by the sea disaster.
