Vanderbilt Funeral Held For Cornelius Vanderbilt
Funeral services for Cornelius Vanderbilt were held at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church after family ceremonies at home. Bishop Potter and Dr. Greer led the rites with Chopin funeral march, "Asleep in Jesus" and "Abide with Me" among hymns. The burial occurred at the Vanderbilt mausoleum on Staten Island, with a large family showing and a will read later. A cable from Alfred Vanderbilt reported he would sail for home upon learning of the death. Estimates of state inheritance tax from the estate are detailed, citing distributions to direct heirs, collateral heirs and charities.
