A friend reports on recent literary chatter. The Wind of Destiny by Professor Hardy sparks admiration for its subtle reach beyond words. Balzac translations by Roberts Bros include Le Cousin Pons, with La Consine Bette under consideration. Sandra Belloni by George Meredith is new, Diana of the Crossways forthcoming. Arlo Bates’s poems honor his late wife Eleanor Putnam. George Bancroft praised Winsor's Narrative and Critical History of America. Shorts novel Sir Percival is said to attack modern agnosticism.
