The Albert bridge in Belfast and the Ostrawitza bridge in Austria collapsed with several deaths reported in Austria. Berlin disapproves of General Kaulhaus as a Russian agent at Sofia. Justin MCarthy delivered a farewell lecture before his departure for America. Parnell's land bill is anticipated to be debated in Parliament on Monday.
On the second day of the Grand Circuit at Mystic Park Kitefoot Bijou and Breeze Medium won races. The Boston team defeated Philadelphia 5 to 3 while stock activity showed irregular tone with Union Pacific and Atlantic & Pacific making gains. Reading hosts the thirty eighth anniversary of the Boston North Baptist Association.
London reports indicate after talks on Irish constabulary appropriations the Parnellites will end debate and remaining supply measures will pass quickly. The jury in the Coney Island Jockey Club pool selling case at Sheepshead Bay informed Judge Moore they could not agree and were discharged. Reports say the vote stood 11 to 1 for conviction, leaving the case unresolved.
Justin McCarthy delivered a farewell lecture in Liverpool on the eve of his departure for America. A large audience attended the event tonight as he prepared to sail.
In the Salem triple league at Salem yesterday the Salem Base Ball Club won their first game defeating the Manchesters in a ten inning game 4 to 3.
A Maine election result elates Benjamin Blaine per a private letter from Seth Milliken. The missive says Blaine will address the 1888 nominating convention and likely campaign vigorously in New York, aiming to unite labor voters and strengthen the party nationwide.
Washington reports that a transfer of Eugene Higgins from treasury appointment clerk to head of the detective force was rumored but deemed false. Officials say Higgins is satisfactory in his present role and Colonel Brooks remains in place. Brooks is described as almost invaluable.
The superintendent of foreign mails in Washington announces that ships previously carrying limited and specially addressed foreign mails from Boston will henceforth carry full mails. This change broadens mail service and efficiency for international correspondence.
The acting secretary of the treasury issues the 142d call for 15 million dollars of the 3 percent 1882 loan. Principal and accrued interest will be paid in Washington on October 16, 1886. The call lists original numbers for bonds of 50, 100, 500, 1,000 and 10,000 dollar denominations and notes that many original bonds have been transferred or redeemed. The new feature allows immediate payment on presentation with interest to date. The modification also extends indefinitely the amount and date for redemption of such bonds.
The British board of trade awarded testimonials to the master of the schooner Fannie E. Gorham of Belfast Maine for services rendered to the steamer Oregon sunk off Fire Island on March 14.
New Reproport, Sept. 15. John Williams third mate of the whaling bark Wave, arrived from Hudson's Bay and was arrested on a July 29, 1885 assault charge against seaman Justus Inder Bitzin. Damages cited at 1000. A criminal complaint was filed and the U S marshal at Boston ordered to arrest Williams. Williams, a Rio de Janeiro native, says the dispute arose during a jailing in a heavy gale. Bitzin says Williams pushed him but he did not strike.
In Fairhaven preparations continue for Newport races. Puritan is fresh from the ways with updated head sails. Wilson the Boston sailmaker and his crew overhauled the boat while Captain Crocker arrives to sail. Madcap and Rebecca head west, Medusa is overhauled and in the stream, and Theresa will sail to Newport tomorrow.
Funeral services for R. H. Gardiner were held at Christ Church in Gardiner at 4 PM conducted by Bishop Greely with Rev. Charles L. Wells assisting. Large turnout from Gardiner and nearby cities, with eleven delegates from New England in attendance. All stores and businesses closed for the rites.
A sensational rumor spread that James Gordon Bennett had died suddenly causing widespread excitement. The telegraph office received many inquiries from Casino Club members and locals after a Providence boat passenger claimed the bulletin stated the report. An inquiry to the Herald office in New York was underway.
Chicago September 15. William J. Clingen ex clerk of the armory police court died suddenly on the 8th and was buried at Calvary cemetery. He had been under indictment for a several thousand dollar deficit. Reports claim the death may be feigned and the body substituted, but witnesses and the coroner dispute the tale and the grave remains undisturbed.
Wurman Sept 15 reporters state the Lasters' Protective Union of Brockton ordered workers to quit after a July strike. The dispute centers on pay and hiring non union men, with Knights of Labor accused of contract rules pressure. An executive board meeting is planned for tomorrow to decide on future action.
Commissioner McLellan to begin evidence tomorrow in the David J. Adams seizure case while Chief Justice Macdonald hears counsel on the 28th. Collector Bourinot faces multiple charges of smuggling and customs law violations against the American schooner Moro Castle seized at Port Hawkesbury as 500 French codfish vessels reportedly post a large catch aided by a 10 franc export duty aiming at Canadian and American markets.
The first B&O through train from New York departs Saturday night with a Knights Templar excursion. They will be shifted from Reading to the B&O depot by coaches, inaugurating a new through route and ending the Pennsylvania road local rate arrangement to Baltimore.
The Rev. Arthur W. Stanford, Amherst and Yale trained, was examined by Congregational clergy and ordained. Out-of-town ministers E. Y. Hicks of Andover and N. G. Clark plus H. L. Gordon of Boston attended. Stanford and his wife sail to Japan to work as missionaries under the American Board of Foreign Missions.
In Ostrau Moravia the Ostrawitza river suspension bridge gave way as a squadron of Uhlans rode across. Seven killed including a Uhlan and many injured. Spectators on the bridge also fell into the river and were rescued. Separate report from Belfast notes the Albert bridge over the Lagan collapsing with twenty people in the water and four drowned.
Canalis Maine Sept 5 three Boston sports men A D Puffer D J Puffer and W H Collins were arrested at Grand Lake for shooting game out of season. They admitted the deer kill and paid 140 in fines to settle the matter.
The Democratic State convention in Maison Wisconsin nominated Gilbert A. Woodward for governor J D Putnam for lieutenant governor John C Ludwig for secretary of state John A Johnson for treasurer G W Bird for attorney general Edward McLaughlin for railroad commissioner James Meehan for insurance commissioner and condemned the Republican riot issue as libel on Wisconsin laborers stating workers are not anarchists and denouncing GOP tactics as political subterfuge
Delegates from twelve states including Illinois Indiana Iowa Wisconsin Minnesota Pennsylvania New York New Jersey Massachusetts Vermont Kansas and Nebraska reach Chicago for the national conference opening tomorrow A caucus names ex Senator Windom Minnesota as chairman The movement gains support from Senators Edmunds Morrill Blair Frye Hoar Platt Chase Hawley and leaders Whitelaw Reid Major Bundy Noah Davis and Chauncey M Depew with aims to push a party plank opposing saloons without endorsing prohibition.
At the Republican senatorial convention for the eleventh district Benjamin F. Towle of Northwood was nominated. In Merrimac county the Democrats named Sheriff William K Norton and several other county offices. In Manchester Democrats nominated George W Dodge for the third councillor district. In Nashua Edward P Blunt was nominated on the sixth ballot.
Dr Norvin Green stated the Western Union will stick to its 1883 city franchise authorizing streets and underground vaults for wires. If West street access from Courtland to Liberty ferry is denied they will sue. He argued elevated wires ease repairs and that 1883 iron pipes to Twenty third Street remain sound.

Pitrspurg Penn Sept 15 Geneva Park a summer resort six miles below the city has been placed at the disposal of John L Sullivan for his six round contest with Frank Hearld and the fight is expected to take place there Friday.
The Nichols case against the town of Clare mont, New Hampshire, after trial since September 7, ended yesterday at noon with a verdict for the town.
In Newport Rhode Island on September 15 interest grows for Saturday’s yacht race between New York club yachts and the Galatea. The New York club plans four classes and a citizens’ committee raises funds for more valuable caps. A car boat will run the triangle route if the Block Island course is sailed, moored near West Island lighthouse with a flag and night lights for potential delays. The Mayflower went to Providence to be stocked. Yachting men expect the race to be the most interesting in New York club history.
The Marshfield Agricultural and Horticultural Society opened its twentieth annual exhibition with large displays and strong livestock competition led by Butcher Boy and Little Fred owned by George Bradford of Duxbury. Attleboro and Berkshire fairs drew thousands, with top prizes in horse and bicycle events, notable time records, and exhibitions by many local farmers.
A late evening blaze at 111 Milk Street start from an overheated boiler in A T Bliss printing office on the third floor. The fire spread rapidly through upper floors causing heavy stock losses in several tenants including Bliss, Hearn, Poirrier and Eliot Paper Box Company while water damage spread to many areas. The building owned by Tufts College sustained about 3000 in damage though insurance covers part of the losses.
In Brockton at 1:30 a.m. fire broke out in the basement of M. H. Gibbs residence on Fuller street. Flames climbed to the upper floors, gutting the house which is valued near ten thousand dollars and insured. The structure is likely a total loss.
A second floor fire at No. 1 Stillman street last evening at 7 11 attracted a box 17 alarm. The brick building owned by Abraham Fenn, occupied by Mary Harkins, sustained 200 dollars in damage from a closet fire with unknown cause. A later alarm from Box 79 at 7 20 was unnecessary.
For 24 hours from 7 a.m. Thursday September 16, Maine New Hampshire eastern Massachusetts Rhode Island expect generally fair weather with slightly warmer conditions and southerly variable winds. The rest of New England and eastern New York will have local rain and near stationary temperatures with variable southerly winds.

Lewiston reports Bodwell 66,556 Edwards 53,251 Clark 3,607 with Robie 3,210 Plaisted 3,752 and 242 scattered. In Bancroft district Boutelle leads 14,303 Lynch 9,414 and 482 scattered, Bou telle's plurality 4,389. Penobscot county elects three Republicans to the Senate and fourteen Republicans to the House, with Brown the lone Democrat for sheriff.
A wedding took place at MatoEn with Miss Louise E Ball daughter of Postmaster L O Ball and Professor W G Robinson of the Baltimore Art School. Rev William P Odell officiated in a Methodist church setting with many graceful presents. After a brief trip the couple will reside in Baltimore.

Princeton New Jersey reports Princeton College reopened today with a freshman class of 206 and about 550 students on the rolls. The theological seminary will reopen tomorrow with higher attendance.
